A Toronto to Buffalo airport car service covers about 160 km: down the QEW to Fort Erie, over the Niagara River, and on to Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) at 4200 Genesee Street. The driving is 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes, and the border crossing is added on top. TorontoBlackLimousine.net books the transfer through our Toronto dispatch, and the online booker shows the exact fare for your address before you pay.

People make the trip for different reasons. Some find a better routing from BUF than from Pearson. Some are travelling to a US destination that Buffalo serves directly. Others are heading home from a US trip that ended in Buffalo. In every case the questions are the same: which crossing, which documents, how early to leave, and how to avoid arriving at the terminal with minutes to spare. This page answers them.

How long does it take to get from Toronto to Buffalo airport by car?

Toronto to Buffalo airport is about 160 km, usually 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes of driving, plus the border crossing. Border waits vary from no delay to long queues at peak times, so a transfer for a flight should leave a generous margin. The booker sets the pickup time with that margin built in.

The driving time is the easy part. What changes the total is the border, and it changes it more than the road does. A quiet midweek crossing can be nearly instant, while a holiday weekend can take far longer, which is why we plan from the flight backwards.

A sensible rule is to plan for the total journey, not the driving. Work out what time you want to be at the BUF curb, then allow about 3 to 4 hours before that for the drive and crossing from the Toronto area. Your airline's own check-in and security guidance sets the curb time; we do not guess at it for you.

The route: QEW to Fort Erie and the Peace Bridge

The classic route runs west out of Toronto on the Gardiner Expressway, then along the QEW, past Mississauga, Oakville and Burlington, over the Burlington Skyway, through St. Catharines and on past Niagara Falls, then down the Niagara River to Fort Erie. The Peace Bridge connects Fort Erie, Ontario with Buffalo, New York, and its plaza sits at 1 Peace Bridge Plaza on the Buffalo side, according to the Peace Bridge Authority.

From the US side of the Peace Bridge, the final run to the airport follows city and suburban roads to Genesee Street. The airport's own site gives its address as 4200 Genesee Street, Buffalo, NY 14225. Where exactly we meet you on the way back is arranged at booking.

The same QEW also gives you the alternative crossings, which the next section compares. Whatever you choose, check the Ontario half of the road on Ontario 511, which shows road conditions, closures and roadwork, and on the official border wait-time page before you set out.

Which border crossing: Peace Bridge, Lewiston-Queenston or Rainbow

Three bridges serve the Niagara frontier, and the right one depends on where you are going and when.

CrossingWhere it joinsWhat to know
Peace Bridge (Fort Erie–Buffalo)Straight into BuffaloThe usual choice for BUF; Canada-bound NEXUS lane open 24 hours a day
Lewiston-Queenston BridgeNear Niagara Falls, via Highway 405Lists dedicated NEXUS service for Canada-bound travellers only
Rainbow BridgeNiagara Falls, Ontario to Niagara Falls, New YorkUseful if you are combining a Falls visit with the trip

Wait times differ by crossing and by hour. As an illustration only, the Peace Bridge Authority showed about 16 minutes for US-bound cars and no delay for Canada-bound cars on 8 October 2026 at 8:15 pm, while the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission listed 18 minutes to the US at Lewiston-Queenston and no delay at the Rainbow Bridge at the same time. These numbers change by the hour and are not a promise for your day.

We choose the crossing with you, usually the Peace Bridge, and you can ask to switch if live conditions make another bridge better. See the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission for the Lewiston-Queenston and Rainbow crossings.

Documents you need for the border

The border is a real checkpoint, and every passenger needs valid documents. The Canada Border Services Agency says a valid Canadian passport is the main document for Canadians returning to Canada and is the only universally accepted identification; other documents such as a NEXUS card, a citizenship certificate or an enhanced driver's licence may help prove identity and citizenship.

For entering the US, the Peace Bridge Authority's ID page lists the documents accepted for Canadian and US citizens aged 16 and over: an Enhanced Driver's Licence or Enhanced Non-Driver Identification, a FAST card, a NEXUS card, a Permanent Resident Card, a passport or a US Passport Card. For citizens aged 15 and younger, it lists an original or copy of a birth certificate or other proof of citizenship. Other nationalities need a passport, and the page notes that other documents may be required.

We are not immigration advisers, and rules change. If anyone in the car is not a Canadian or US citizen, check with the Canada Border Services Agency and the US Department of State, and see CBP's I-94 page for how arrival records work. The safest plan is to carry a passport for every passenger, including children.

NEXUS: what it helps and what it does not

NEXUS is a trusted-traveller programme for pre-approved, low-risk travellers, intended to speed border clearance into both Canada and the US. If you hold a card, say so when you book. The Peace Bridge Authority lists the Canada-bound NEXUS lane as open 24 hours a day, every day, and a second lane can open at busy times. It also describes a US-bound NEXUS lane with posted hours, so confirm those hours with the Authority before you travel.

A general rule applies to any NEXUS lane: it is designed for members, and everyone in the vehicle should be enrolled to use it. Check with the Canada Border Services Agency and US Customs and Border Protection on the exact rule for mixed groups before you rely on a NEXUS lane for a family trip.

Planning around your flight

The transfer works best when planned backwards from the flight. Use this method:

Two travellers with a suitcase waiting at the kerb
Two travellers with a suitcase waiting at the kerb
  1. Find your flight time and your airline's recommended arrival time at the airport.
  2. Subtract that arrival window to get your latest curb time at BUF.
  3. Subtract 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes for the drive from the Toronto area.
  4. Subtract the border margin. Allow at least 45 minutes for a normal day and more for a holiday weekend, a Friday afternoon or an event in Buffalo.
  5. Choose the pickup time with a small additional cushion for traffic on the QEW.

Our booker handles this arithmetic once you enter the flight details, but it helps to understand the logic. If you choose a pickup time that is tighter than the method suggests, the risk is yours, and a missed flight cannot be recovered by driving faster.

For a late-afternoon departure, a mid-morning pickup works well. For an early-morning departure, the safest plan is often an overnight at a hotel near the airport or an early start with a larger margin. Ask us if you want the arithmetic checked.

Why people fly from Buffalo instead of Pearson

Buffalo Niagara International Airport lists seven commercial airlines on its carriers page: American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines and United Airlines. For travellers going to many US destinations, that is a useful mix, and fares from BUF to US cities often differ from fares out of Toronto. We do not quote or compare fares on this site, so check the airlines before you decide.

The honest comparison is that Pearson is still the better choice for many people. It is the base for most Toronto itineraries on Canadian carriers and for long-haul routings, it involves no border before your flight, and a missed connection is easier to repair. Buffalo wins when your flight is to a US destination, when a fare difference is worth the extra hours, or when the trip itself is based around Buffalo. Do the maths on the full cost, including the drive, the time and parking, before you commit.

Driving yourself can be the better value if you are travelling alone and will be away for a long weekend, as long as you are comfortable with the border and airport parking. A shared shuttle can undercut a private car for one traveller. A private car wins on convenience for two or more people, for luggage, for early or late departures and when you do not want to leave a car in Buffalo.

Pickup in the Toronto area

We collect from downtown hotels and condos, from Pearson-area hotels, and from homes across the GTA. For pickups in the west of the GTA the drive to Buffalo is shorter than from downtown, because you join the QEW sooner, and the booker calculates the exact distance and time. Our Mississauga limo and Oakville limo pages describe those pickup areas.

Tell us the number of passengers and bags at booking. The Executive Sedan carries up to 3 passengers with 2 large and 2 carry-on bags, the Luxury SUV takes up to 6 passengers and 5 to 6 large bags, and the Executive Sprinter takes 12 to 14 passengers with 12+ bags. See the fleet for each class. Child, toddler and booster seats are available on request at booking, and for children you should also carry the right documents.

Coming home: Buffalo airport to Toronto

The return is a mirror image, with one difference: you are entering Canada, so the Canada Border Services Agency conducts the inspection at the Canadian end. Have passports ready, answer the questions directly and declare anything you bought. If you hold a NEXUS card and the whole car is enrolled, ask about the Canada-bound lane.

Dome-car windows on a train through a forest

For Peace Bridge, tolls are collected only on Canada-bound traffic according to the Authority's site, so budget a moment at the plaza for payment. We track your flight so the car adjusts if you land late, and a name-board greeting inside arrivals can be added to the booking. Our meet and greet page explains how it works.

Weather, holidays and events

Winter weather affects both the QEW and the Buffalo area, and snow is a real factor between December and March. Check Ontario 511 for your side and allow extra time on the day. Holiday weekends, long weekends in the US and Canada, and major events can push border waits well beyond the usual. For these dates, ask us to plan a larger margin or an earlier pickup.

If you are combining the trip with a Falls visit, our Toronto to Niagara Falls page explains that route, and our Niagara Falls limo page covers the city. For longer US trips see Toronto to Detroit and the cross-border limo service, and for a full list of airports see airport limo Toronto and our airports hub.

Booking and cancellation

You do not need to ask for a quote: the booker shows the exact fare for your pickup, vehicle and date before payment. Border wait time is part of the trip, and our 24/7 dispatch is available if your plans change. Our chauffeurs and vehicles are licensed and commercially insured.

Cancellations are measured from the scheduled pickup time. More than 72 hours' notice: no charge. 72 hours or less: 10%. 48 hours or less: 50%. 24 hours or less, or a no-show: 100%. Read more on our FAQ, or see the dedicated Buffalo airport limo page for the airport side of the trip.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Buffalo airport from Toronto?

It is about 160 km by road, usually 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes of driving. The border crossing is added to that, and its length varies from a few minutes to over an hour.

How much is a car service from Toronto to Buffalo airport?

We do not publish a figure because the fare depends on your pickup address, vehicle class and date. Enter the details in the booker and it shows the exact all-in fare, fixed, before you confirm.

Which border crossing is best for Buffalo airport?

The Peace Bridge between Fort Erie and Buffalo is the usual choice because it leads directly into Buffalo. Lewiston-Queenston and Rainbow are alternatives, particularly when a wait-time report makes one faster. We choose the crossing with you at booking.

What documents do I need to travel from Toronto to Buffalo airport?

A valid passport for each traveller is the safest option. The Peace Bridge Authority also lists a NEXUS card, an Enhanced Driver's Licence and other documents for Canadian and US citizens aged 16 and over. Children aged 15 and younger can use a birth certificate or other proof of citizenship. Other nationalities need a passport and possibly other documents.

How early should I leave Toronto for a Buffalo flight?

Work back from the time you want to be at the terminal. Allow about 3 to 4 hours before that for the drive and border from the Toronto area, and more on holiday weekends. Your airline sets its own arrival guidance.

Is it better value to fly from Buffalo or Pearson?

We do not compare fares on this site. Fares vary by route and date, so compare the airline fare, the drive, the border time and parking before deciding. Pearson is often the better choice for long-haul and Canadian-carrier itineraries.

Can you pick me up from Buffalo airport and drive me to Toronto?

Yes. We track the flight, the meeting point is arranged at booking, and the free waiting window after landing is longer for international arrivals than for domestic ones. Everyone needs valid documents for the Canadian border.

Does the border wait count as part of the trip?

Yes. Border wait time is part of the trip, so the pickup time includes a margin for the crossing. The booker shows the fare for your transfer before you pay, and our 24/7 dispatch is available if plans change.

Can I bring a child seat or travel with a group?

Yes. Request the seats you need when you book; the Luxury SUV and Executive Sprinter handle larger groups. Carry valid documents for every child.
