Montreal to Quebec City is the corridor's short hop: about 250 km and a little under three hours. A Montreal to Quebec City car service means one pickup and one drop-off with nothing in between to organise. TorontoBlackLimousine.net books the run through our Toronto dispatch, with service in English and French in Québec, and the online booker shows the exact fare for your addresses before you pay.
How long is a Montreal to Quebec City car service ride?
Montréal to Québec City is about 250 km, usually 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours by road. Autoroute 20 on the south shore is the usual route, and Autoroute 40 on the north shore is the alternative. The booker displays the exact fare for your addresses before you confirm.
Québec City's tourism office puts the distance at about 250 km and the drive at 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours depending on traffic, and calls Highway 20 the most popular and fastest route. A trip that starts in central Montréal at rush hour will sit at the top of the range, because getting off the Island is the slowest part of the drive.
Allow for the return too. A same-day round trip is about 500 km and 5.5 to 6 hours of driving, which makes it one of the few long corridor runs that works comfortably as a day.
Montreal to Quebec City distance and drive time

| Trip | Distance | Typical drive time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown Montréal to Old Québec | about 250 km | 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours | Autoroute 20 south shore, then Autoroute 73 and the Pierre-Laporte Bridge |
| Downtown Montréal to Québec City via Autoroute 40 | comparable distance | Similar, depending on traffic | North shore, through Trois-Rivières |
| Round trip, same day | about 500 km | 5.5 to 6 hours of driving | Leaves time for a meeting or a long lunch |
These are driving times. A coffee stop adds 15 to 20 minutes and a proper lunch an hour, and Friday afternoon is the busiest time on the Island of Montréal. Tell us a deadline when you book and we plan the departure backwards from it.
Autoroute 20 or Autoroute 40: which road to Québec City
There are two main ways to make the trip, one on each side of the St. Lawrence.
Autoroute 20, the south shore. This is the default. It leaves Montréal across the Champlain Bridge area, runs past Longueuil, Brossard and Boucherville, bypasses Saint-Hyacinthe and reaches Drummondville, where it shares 37 km of pavement with Autoroute 55. It crosses farmland within a few kilometres of the river. At kilometre 312 it meets Autoroute 73, which crosses the Pierre-Laporte Bridge into Québec City. Autoroute 20 itself never enters the city proper.
Autoroute 40, the north shore. It runs from Montréal through Repentigny, Berthierville, Louiseville and Trois-Rivières, meets Autoroute 55 near Trois-Rivières, then continues to the Québec City area, where it connects with Autoroutes 73 and 440. It is the more interesting road for stops and the one drivers choose when their destination is on the north side, or when they have a reason to visit Trois-Rivières on the way.
The route is chosen to suit your destination and the live traffic on the day. If you have a strong preference, say so in the booking notes.
The scenic option: Route 138 and the Chemin du Roy
For a slow day, the tourism office recommends Route 138, the Chemin du Roy, on the north shore. It follows the oldest road in the province and passes villages such as Cap-Santé. This is not the road for a connecting flight, since it is much slower than the autoroute, so we suggest it only for a day with nothing to catch.
If you want it, ask for it in the booking notes and tell us how much time you have. Our Trois-Rivières limo page covers the midpoint town for travellers who want to break the trip there.
Stops between Montréal and Québec City
- Trois-Rivières. Roughly the midpoint of the 250 km, on Autoroute 40 and close to the junction with Autoroute 55. A natural lunch stop on the north-shore route.
- Drummondville. On the south-shore route, where Autoroute 20 and Autoroute 55 run together. A quick fuel or coffee break.
- Berthierville and Louiseville. Small towns on Autoroute 40, useful for a short break without leaving the main road.
- Cap-Santé and the Chemin du Roy. The scenic stop for travellers who choose Route 138.
If you add a stop in the notes, dispatch confirms that it fits your arrival time.
Montreal to Quebec City limo: which vehicle
A short intercity run can be done in any of the three main vehicles.

- Executive Sedan: for 1 to 3 passengers, with 2 large and 2 carry-on bags.
- Luxury SUV: for up to 6 passengers, carrying 5 to 6 large bags.
- Executive Sprinter: 12 to 14 seats and 12 or more large bags, a good fit for conference groups and wedding parties.
Stretch limousines, party buses and mini-coaches are hourly products, so availability and the exact vehicle are confirmed at booking. Every vehicle and chauffeur is licensed and commercially insured. See the fleet page.
Montreal to Quebec City by train, coach or car
| Option | Typical time | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private car service (this page) | 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours door to door | Fixed fare via the booker | Groups, luggage, off-station addresses, tight schedules |
| VIA Rail | about 3 hours 26 minutes on average, Gare Centrale to Gare du Palais | Varies by fare class and date | Solo travellers who like to work or rest on the train |
| Intercity coach | about 3 hours | Lowest fare | One bag and a flexible schedule |
| Rental car, one way | 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours of driving | Plus return logistics | Travellers who want to drive |
| Rideshare or taxi | Not designed for 250 km | Meter or app pricing | City trips only |
| Flight | Not sensible for 250 km | Varies | Connections only |
The tourism office describes the train at about 3 hours 15 minutes, with Wi-Fi onboard, leaving Montréal Central Station and arriving at Gare du Palais. VIA's own Montréal to Québec page lists 270 km, an average journey of 3 hours 26 minutes and 34 departures a week as of October 2026. The same guide describes the Orléans Express coach as the budget choice, about three hours with Wi-Fi and outlets and a departure almost every hour from 7 am to 9 pm, arriving at Gare du Palais. See the tourism office's Montréal to Québec City guide.
On this corridor we would tell a single traveller with one bag and a flexible timetable that the train or the coach is a perfectly good choice, and usually the lower-cost one. The car wins when the party is two or more, when luggage is heavy, when your hotel is not near a station or when you must be somewhere at a set time. See the limo versus rideshare page for the full comparison with app-based rides.
Pickups in Montréal: hotels, Gare Centrale and Trudeau
Common starting points are downtown hotels, Old Montréal, Gare Centrale and the airport. Gare Centrale is at 895 rue de la Gauchetière Ouest, according to VIA, directly under the Queen Elizabeth hotel. On the Island of Montréal, right turns on red are prohibited and parking signs are in French and use the 24-hour clock, as Tourisme Montréal explains in its driving guide, which is why a chauffeur who works the city matters.

For station detail see the Gare Centrale page, and for city information the Montreal limo page. For airport pickups at Trudeau, see the Montréal airport page. Airport pickups come with flight tracking, 60 minutes of free waiting after international arrivals and 30 after domestic, and a name-board meet-and-greet inside arrivals can be added.
Arriving in Québec City: Gare du Palais, Old Québec and the airport
VIA lists Gare du Palais at 450 rue de la Gare du Palais, a staffed station with a restaurant, Wi-Fi, taxis and city bus connections. Our Gare du Palais page covers the station, and the Québec City limo page the city. For the airport, see the Québec City airport page.
In Old Québec the final approach is slower than the highway. Give us the hotel or venue address and any access instructions at booking, so the chauffeur can plan the last few streets. Lévis lies across the river from Québec City, and the south-shore Autoroute 20 bypasses it on the way.
A day trip from Montréal to Québec City and back
A return day works well. Depart Montréal at 8 am, reach Old Québec before midday, spend four or five hours in the city and drive back for the evening. The round trip is about 500 km, so the driving adds up to roughly 5.5 to 6 hours, and the chauffeur can wait or return at a time you set.

Tell us at booking whether you want the vehicle to wait or come back for you. For a longer city visit, see the city tours page.
Airport transfers between Trudeau and Québec City
Travellers landing in Montréal with an onward booking in Québec City often prefer a car to a connection. From Trudeau the route joins Autoroute 20 close to the airport, since Dorval is the main access point to it, then crosses the Island and continues down the south shore. The airport sits on the west side of Montréal, so allow extra time on the Island before the open highway begins.
Winter driving between Montréal and Québec City
December to March can bring snow, wind and reduced visibility on the open stretches along the river. Québec's SAAQ requires winter tires from December 1 to March 15 on vehicles registered in Québec, as set out on its winter preparation page. The page does not address vehicles registered elsewhere, so ask the dispatch desk about tire specifics when you book. Dispatch is staffed 24/7 in case a storm requires a change of pickup time.
Conferences, business trips and group travel
Québec City is the provincial capital, and meetings, conferences and group events fill its hotels. A private car lets a team travel together, work on the way and arrive at the same door. The corporate car service page covers regular programmes, and the travel desk helps with itinerary planning.
Weddings, families and child seats
Wedding parties often travel between Montréal and Québec City; an Executive Sprinter seats 12 to 14, and a Luxury SUV is better than two cars for a family with luggage. Child, toddler and booster seats are available when requested at booking, so see the car seat page. Alcohol rules follow Québec law and are confirmed at booking, and we never promise drinks on board. Timelines for the day are on the wedding limo page.
Continuing from Québec City, or starting in Toronto
If your trip begins in Toronto, the Toronto to Québec City page covers about 790 km, and the Toronto to Montréal page the first leg. Past Québec City, the Charlevoix limo page covers the road toward Baie-Saint-Paul and La Malbaie, and the Québec hub lists the rest of the province. The full corridor is on the routes hub.
Booking and cancellation
Tell the booker where you are starting, where you are going, when and in what vehicle, and it returns an exact all-in fare before payment. A 250 km trip varies with address, vehicle and date, so no figure is printed here.
The clock runs from the scheduled pickup time. Cancelling more than 72 hours ahead is free of charge; at 72 hours or less 10% applies, at 48 hours or less 50%, and at 24 hours or less, or on a no-show, the full 100%. The about page has the background on the company.
