What is a private city tour with a driver in Toronto?

It is a chauffeur-driven day or half-day in one vehicle that stays with you: you choose the stops and the pace, the chauffeur handles traffic and drop-offs, and you buy attraction tickets directly. The fare is fixed and shown in the online booker before you pay.

A private tour with a driver is not a coach tour with a commentary and a headcount. It is closer to having a well-informed local friend with a very good car. You tell us what you want to see, in what order and for how long, and the chauffeur gets you to each door, waits where it is legal to wait, and has the car at the kerb when you come out.

This page sets out how a private tour from TorontoBlackLimousine.net works, which vehicle suits which group, and suggested itineraries by the hour for Toronto, Niagara Falls, Montréal, Québec City and Ottawa. Each leg has a distance and a typical drive time. There are no prices on this page: the online booker shows the exact all-in fare for your itinerary and vehicle before you confirm.

How a chauffeur-driven tour works

You book a vehicle and a window of time, for example 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and list the stops you have in mind. The chauffeur drives the route, advises on timing as the day unfolds, and adjusts if a queue is longer than expected or a stop is worth lingering over. The exact fare is shown in the booker for the whole itinerary, so there is nothing to negotiate at the kerb.

We provide the vehicle and the licensed, commercially insured chauffeur. Entry tickets, timed admissions, guided tours and meals are arranged directly with each attraction or restaurant. That division works in your favour: you can book the CN Tower or a ferry crossing for the time that suits your day, and we plan the drive around it.

Because opening hours, closures and ticket rules change, check the attraction's own site before you finalise the day. We link the official sites below for exactly that reason. For a day built mostly around the vehicle, see the hourly chauffeur page, which explains how longer timed bookings work.

Choosing the right vehicle for the group

The group decides the vehicle more than the itinerary does. A couple doing Toronto's headline sights wants a sedan; a family of five with a stroller wants an SUV; a visiting delegation wants a Sprinter.

GroupVehicleWhy
1–3 guestsExecutive Sedan (2 large + 2 carry-on bags)quiet and comfortable for couples and business visitors
4–6 guestsLuxury SUV (5–6 large bags)room for families, strollers and shopping
12–14 guestsExecutive Sprinter (12+ bags)a single vehicle for tour groups and delegations
8–10 guests, a celebrationStretch Limousine, hourlyavailability and the exact vehicle are confirmed at booking

Larger groups of 20 to 30 can ask about a mini-coach or party bus, booked hourly, with availability and the exact vehicle confirmed at booking. See our fleet page and the stretch limo page for the classes. Child, toddler and booster seats are available when requested at booking; see car seat limo.

Toronto in four hours: a first-day itinerary

If you have half a day in Toronto, the trick is to cluster the stops. This version works for most first-time visitors and starts from a downtown hotel or from Union Station.

Passenger on a station platform beside a train
Passenger on a station platform beside a train
  • Hour 1: CN Tower and the waterfront. The CN Tower's own site describes the EdgeWalk, a hands-free walk around the outside of the main pod 116 storeys above the ground, and an upper platform 33 storeys above the main observation level that it calls the highest viewing platform in the Western Hemisphere. Check cntower.ca for hours, since they change by date.
  • Hour 2: downtown drive. A slow loop past the financial district, the Entertainment District and the university area, with photo stops where the chauffeur can stop safely.
  • Hour 3: Casa Loma. Roughly 5 km from the CN Tower, about 15 to 25 minutes. Casa Loma sits at 1 Austin Terrace and describes itself as Toronto's majestic castle; its site lists the grounds, tunnels, the Conservatory, Peacock Alley and exhibits, and shows the date-specific admission tickets it sells online. See casaloma.ca for current hours.
  • Hour 4: lunch or a neighbourhood stroll. Back toward the lake, or to a neighbourhood you want to see on foot.

That is a realistic four hours for two attractions, because the tickets and queues take longer than the drives.

A full Toronto day: eight hours with the Island

With a full day you can add the Toronto Islands. The City of Toronto's Island Park page explains that ferry tickets can be bought in advance online, that routes and schedules are published separately, and that the Centre Island dock has an Information Hub. It also notes a project on new ferries and access improvements, so check the page before you plan around a particular schedule: Toronto Island Park.

A sample day: pick up at the hotel at 9 a.m.; the CN Tower at opening; the ferry crossing around midday; an afternoon on the Island; Casa Loma in the late afternoon; dinner in the neighbourhood of your choice. The chauffeur is there for the transfers on either side of the ferry, and waits through the Island visit so the car is ready when the last ferry brings you back.

Pearson, the airport, is about 27 km from Union Station, usually 30 to 50 minutes. If you land in the morning and want the tour to start the same day, ask for an airport pickup followed by a timed itinerary. The Pearson airport limo page explains the pickup.

Niagara Falls from Toronto: a day on the Parks side

Niagara Falls is about 130 km from Toronto, normally 80 to 100 minutes along the QEW, and about 125 km from Pearson. It is the most requested day trip from Toronto, and a private car turns it from a bus timetable into a day that fits your schedule. The dedicated Toronto to Niagara Falls route page covers the drive; Niagara Falls limo service covers the city.

Niagara Parks lists a long run of attractions on niagaraparks.com, including Journey Behind the Falls, Niagara City Cruises, the Butterfly Conservatory, the White Water Walk, the Whirlpool Aero Car, the Floral Showhouse and the Niagara Glen Nature Centre, as well as heritage sites such as Queenston Heights and Old Fort Erie. It also says the Falls Illumination runs every evening, year-round.

A sensible plan for a day trip: leave Toronto around 8 a.m., arrive before the midday crowd, pick two or three headline attractions rather than seven, and stay for the illumination if you are on a long summer day or a winter evening. The tourism board at niagarafallstourism.com groups attractions, tours, casinos, nature and history, and lists seasonal content such as fall colours and the Winter Festival of Lights.

Niagara-on-the-Lake and the wine side

For a quieter day, pair the Falls with Niagara-on-the-Lake, roughly 20 km from the Falls, about 25 to 35 minutes. The town is known for its theatre and its wineries, and the Niagara-on-the-Lake limo service page explains the options.

Wine tasting and driving do not mix, which is the strongest argument for a chauffeur on a winery day. Alcohol rules follow Ontario law and are confirmed at booking, and we never promise drinks on board. The detail of a tasting day is on the wine tour limo page.

Montréal in a day: Old Montréal, the mountain and the Old Port

Montréal Tourism's own site tells first-time visitors to stroll down the cobblestone streets of Old Montréal, features Mount Royal, shows the Mount Royal Lookout and Place d'Armes with Notre-Dame Basilica, and pictures the Old Port. See mtl.org. A private car makes sense here because the sights sit on different sides of a hill.

Downtown Montréal skyline seen from Mount Royal

A first-day plan: start in Old Montréal (the basilica, the cobbled streets), drive about 4 km, roughly 15 to 20 minutes, to the Mount Royal Lookout, and finish in the Old Port. If you are arriving by air, Montréal-Trudeau pickups are covered separately, and the Montréal limo service page covers the city. In Québec, service is offered in English and French.

Toronto to Montréal is about 541 km, 5.5 to 6.5 hours, so most guests fly or take a train for the intercity leg and use us for the city day. If you prefer to drive, see the Toronto to Montréal route.

Québec City: Old Québec, the falls and Île d'Orléans

Québec City is a walking city inside the walls. The tourism office describes Old Québec as a walkable UNESCO World Heritage area, the only fortified city north of Mexico, with more than 400 years of history. See quebec-cite.com. A car is for the places that aren't walkable.

Two options stand out. Montmorency Falls Park, which has a cable car, stairs and a footbridge over the falls, is about 12 km from Old Québec, roughly 15 to 20 minutes. And Île d'Orléans, where the tourism office suggests driving the Chemin Royal counterclockwise past six villages, is about 15 km from Old Québec to the bridge, 20 to 25 minutes, with the island loop adding time. Together they make an afternoon.

Montréal to Québec City is about 255 km, 2.75 to 3 hours, by Highway 40 on the north shore or Highway 20 on the south. The Montréal to Québec City route page and the Québec City limo service page cover both.

Ottawa and the capital region

Ottawa is about 450 km from Toronto, 4.5 to 5 hours, and about 200 km from Montréal, 2 to 2.5 hours. It is a natural stop between the two cities. The sights cluster around Parliament Hill and the museums, and Gatineau lies across the river. Because tour availability and building access change, confirm visit and security arrangements directly with each site, and send us the times once they are fixed.

For the intercity route see Toronto to Ottawa, and for the city itself the Ottawa limo service page.

A multi-day Toronto–Montréal–Québec circuit

Some guests link the cities. The legs are long, and the planning figures below show how the days divide.

Seasons, hours and what changes

Tours are seasonal. Falls Illumination at Niagara runs year-round every evening according to Niagara Parks, but ferry schedules, tower hours, attraction closures and festival dates move through the year. The CN Tower's site, for instance, notes early closures and hours changes on specific dates. Treat every opening time on a third-party page, including ours, as a prompt to check the source.

Winter days run shorter and may need a later start or an earlier return. For winter road conditions on provincial highways, Ontario 511 shows closures, cameras and forecast driving conditions. Our 24/7 dispatch watches the same information and will contact you if a drive needs rescheduling.

Private tour versus the alternatives

Honest comparison first: walking, transit and a scheduled sightseeing bus are lower-cost, and for a solo traveller who likes to move at a bus pace they are often the better choice.

How to plan and book your tour

Start with your hotel or arrival point, the date, how many hours you want, and the stops. List must-sees first, then optional ones, and note anything with a timed ticket. Pick the vehicle by group size. Submit and you will see the exact fare before you confirm.

If your plans might change, remember the cancellation terms: more than 72 hours' notice, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10 per cent; 48 hours or less, 50 per cent; 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100 per cent, all measured from the scheduled pickup time.

Pair the tour with an airport pickup, add a meet and greet for first-time visitors, or return by train from Toronto Union Station. The full Toronto picture is on our limo service Toronto page.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a private tour with a driver in Toronto?

We do not publish a price on this page. The online booker shows the exact fixed fare for your itinerary, date, time and vehicle before you pay. Tell it the hours you want and the stops you have in mind and it gives one all-in figure.

Is the chauffeur a tour guide?

The chauffeur drives, advises on timing and routes, and gets you to each door. Guided tours, timed entries and tickets are booked directly with each attraction. That keeps the day flexible: the car waits and you choose how long to stay.

How far is Niagara Falls from Toronto?

About 130 km, usually 80 to 100 minutes along the QEW, and about 125 km from Pearson. Allow more on summer Friday afternoons and holiday weekends. A private car lets you leave when you are ready, not when a seat comes up on a shuttle.

Can I do Toronto and Niagara Falls in one day?

Yes, but it is a long day. Leave early, choose a few Niagara highlights, and allow for the drive back. If you want to see the Falls Illumination, which Niagara Parks says runs every evening, plan a late return.

What is a good first-day Toronto itinerary?

Four hours covers two main sights: the CN Tower and Casa Loma, with a drive through the downtown between them. Eight hours can add the Toronto Islands ferry. Opening hours and ticket rules change, so confirm them on each attraction's site.

Can you take us from Toronto to Montréal and Québec City?

Yes. Toronto to Montréal is about 541 km, 5.5 to 6.5 hours, and Montréal to Québec City about 255 km, 2.75 to 3 hours. We usually suggest one city per day. Service in Québec is offered in English and French.

Can children come on a private tour?

Yes. Child, toddler and booster seats are available when requested at booking, and the SUV or Sprinter gives families room for strollers and bags.

What if the weather turns?

Dispatch is available 24/7 and watches road conditions. If a drive needs to be moved, tell us as early as possible; cancellations are measured from the scheduled pickup time.

Can the tour start at the airport?

Yes. We track your flight and wait after landing, 60 minutes free on international arrivals and 30 on domestic. A name-board meet and greet inside arrivals can be added, and the tour starts when you are ready.
