An Ottawa private jet car service has a narrow job: a car and a chauffeur in the right place when the cabin door opens, then the shortest sensible route to the passenger's destination. At Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International (YOW) the business-aviation operators sit apart from the main passenger terminal, so the usual taxi-rank logic does not apply. This page explains how TorontoBlackLimousine.net handles FBO pickups at YOW, what the Canada Border Services Agency publishes for private arrivals, and where an honest alternative beats a chauffeured car.

Everything on dispatch is booked through our Toronto office and the online booker, which shows the exact all-in fare for your pickup and drop-off address before you pay.

How does an Ottawa FBO pickup by black car work?

You give us the aircraft's arrival time, the FBO name and the drop-off address. The chauffeur is at the operator's vehicle door when the aircraft is due, we follow the flight, and the fare is fixed and quoted before you pay.

A fixed-base operator, or FBO, is the private terminal where business and charter aircraft park, refuel and hand passengers to ground transport. There is no baggage carousel and no arrivals hall to wait in. The aircraft taxis to the FBO's apron, the cabin door opens, and your car should already be there or very close.

What varies is how close the car can get. Access to the apron is controlled by the airport authority and the FBO, not by a limousine company. In general a car that is pre-arranged with the operator can stage at the FBO's own vehicle entrance, and whether it may proceed onto the ramp depends on the operator's security rules on the day. We confirm the arrangement with the operator before the trip so the chauffeur knows exactly which door to use, and we tell you in the booking confirmation rather than leaving it to chance.

Tell us which operator you are using. Ottawa has more than one, and a car sent to the wrong building loses minutes you do not have. A name-board meet-and-greet inside arrivals is an add-on for commercial flights; at an FBO the chauffeur normally greets the principal at the car door.

Which FBOs serve Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier?

The Ottawa International Airport Authority lists three fixed-base operators on its air service page: ExpressAir, Execaire (Innotech) Aviation and Skyservice Ottawa. The authority describes FBOs as the businesses that provide aviation services and facilitate charters for personal and private aircraft visits.

For passenger handling the two names most travellers meet are Execaire and Skyservice. Execaire's own site lists its Ottawa facility at 300 Comet Private under the Shell AeroCentre banner, with a passenger lounge, a crew lounge, concierge services, catering, car rental, courtesy transportation and "Canada Customs Clearance". Its Ottawa FBO page shows 24/7 operations. Skyservice runs the other large facility on the field. We do not repeat its opening hours here because published sources disagree, and an FBO's staffed hours are the first thing to confirm with the operator when your arrival time is late in the evening or very early.

Whichever operator your aircraft uses, we ask at booking for the operator's name, the aircraft's tail number or flight identifier, and a reachable mobile number for the lead passenger or assistant. If the plan changes, tell the desk and we re-time the car. More answers are on the FAQ page.

Customs for a private arrival: what the CBSA publishes

Passengers on a business jet coming from outside Canada must still be cleared, and the rules differ from an airline arrival. The CBSA's general aviation page sets them out. The points that matter to a passenger, rather than a pilot, are these:

  • Private, company-owned or charter flights carrying no more than 15 people, crew included, report by telephone. The pilot calls the CBSA's Telephone Reporting Centre at least two hours, but no more than 48 hours, before entering Canada.
  • The aircraft must land at an approved airport of entry, normally during the CBSA's business hours there. Other arrangements are made directly with the local CBSA office and can carry cost-recovery charges.
  • Immediately after landing the pilot makes a final call, and nobody leaves the aircraft until authorized to do so.
  • Flights with more than 15 people contact the CBSA office at the proposed airport in advance instead.

Two things follow for your car. The time between touchdown and the moment passengers are free to leave can vary, so we hold the car and watch the aircraft rather than guessing. And clearance hours are a different question from FBO opening hours: an FBO can be open around the clock while border clearance for your flight still has to be arranged. Your flight department or charter broker handles that call; we need only know whether passengers are arriving from abroad. On our side, international arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting after landing and domestic arrivals include 30.

How far is the Ottawa FBO from Parliament Hill, downtown and the Rideau Canal?

Ottawa is one of the easier capitals to reach from an airfield. The FBOs are about 14 km from Parliament Hill, and the run into the centre is typically 20 to 35 minutes depending on the hour. Mornings inbound and late afternoons outbound slow the Airport Parkway and the downtown approaches; mid-day and evenings run closer to free-flow.

The figures are free-flow road distances for planning; the chauffeur adjusts for traffic and construction on the day. For any other address the booker gives the exact distance and fare.

Conferences, galas and Rogers Centre Ottawa

Rogers Centre Ottawa, formerly the Shaw Centre, is the city's convention centre. Its own site gives the address as 55 Colonel By Drive, describes it as connected to the CF Rideau Centre and next to The Westin Ottawa, overlooking the Rideau Canal and close to the National Arts Centre and the ByWard Market. It lists more than 20 configurable meeting rooms and halls and a gala capacity of roughly 3,000 guests.

For a delegation flying in on a business jet, principals go from the FBO straight to the venue or hotel while support staff and luggage follow in a second vehicle. A Luxury SUV carries up to six passengers with five to six large bags, and an Executive Sprinter seats 12 to 14 and takes a dozen-plus cases, so a speaker group with product cases is usually one Sprinter rather than three sedans. For conference-week logistics on the downtown side, our blog guide to Ottawa conferences at the convention centre walks through drop-off sequencing.

Embassies, ministries and meetings that run on a strict clock

Ottawa's business-aviation traffic includes delegations, embassy visits, association executives and corporate teams meeting federal departments. The common thread is punctuality and discretion. Our approach:

Black luxury SUV on a mountain road
Black luxury SUV on a mountain road
  1. Provide the exact street address and the name of the host. Sensitive buildings have their own vehicle approach rules, and the chauffeur needs them in advance.
  2. Allow margin for security. Parliament Hill, embassy gates and federal buildings can add minutes at the kerb that no routing app predicts.
  3. Keep the trip plain and the conversation professional. A Luxury SUV or an Executive Sedan is the usual choice.
  4. Plan the return before the first leg, with a pickup time that reflects how long the meeting could run.

If your itinerary has several stops in a day, an hourly booking with one chauffeur is often tidier than a series of point-to-point trips. See hourly chauffeur service for how that works, and corporate car service if the trip is billed to a company.

Kanata and the west end

The west-end technology cluster in Kanata is a common second stop for visitors. From the FBOs it is about 26 km, usually 30 to 50 minutes, with the Queensway and Highway 417 deciding the range. Executive teams visiting a campus often want a car that waits for the length of the meeting rather than returning later. That is an hourly booking, and it removes the uncertainty of finding a rideshare at a suburban business park at the end of the day.

Gatineau and the Quebec side of the river

The Canadian Museum of History is across the river in Gatineau, about 15 km from the FBOs. Crossing is routine, but it matters for two reasons. Gatineau is in Québec, so the same trip crosses a provincial line and the staff, signage and local rules change with it; our Québec service is available in English and French. And a bridge incident can lengthen a drive that looks short on a map, so the chauffeur checks the crossings before leaving the FBO.

If your programme is mostly on the Quebec side, see our page for limo service in Gatineau, which covers the Outaouais in French and English, or the main Ottawa limo service page for the broader city picture.

Which vehicle: sedan, SUV or Sprinter?

  • Executive Sedan: up to three passengers, two large and two carry-on bags.
  • Luxury SUV: six seats and space for five or six full-size cases.
  • Executive Sprinter: 12 to 14 passengers with 12 or more bags.
  • Stretch limousine (eight to ten passengers, hourly) and mini-coach or party bus (20 to 30, hourly) are available for events and groups; availability and the exact vehicle are confirmed at booking.

Child, toddler and booster seats are provided when requested at booking, which matters for family charters. The fleet page shows the classes.

What flight tracking means when there is no airline schedule

A commercial arrival has a flight number, a scheduled time and public tracking. A private flight often has none of those in a form a limo company can see, so we ask for the tail number or the flight department's expected arrival time and a contact who can warn us of changes. We track what can be tracked, stay in touch with the passenger's assistant, and position the chauffeur early rather than late. The most helpful message you can send is a short text from the flight department when the wheels leave the ground.

Your options from an Ottawa FBO, compared honestly

A chauffeured car is not always the right answer. Here is how the real alternatives line up for someone stepping off a business aircraft in Ottawa.

OptionTypical time to downtownCost noteBest for
Chauffeured black car booked with us20–35 minFixed fare via booker, quoted before you bookTime-critical trips, confidential travel, several passengers, luggage
FBO courtesy transportation, where the operator offers itVariesSet by the operatorShort hops to a nearby hotel if the operator offers it, and you have no luggage

Taxi or rideshare called to the FBO20–40 min plus waitMeter plus surge at peak timesOne person, light bags, no schedule pressure
Public transit from the passenger terminalLonger, with transfersLowestA traveller who has flown in commercially and has time

If you are travelling alone, have no luggage and your meeting is flexible, a rideshare is cheaper than a chauffeured car and perfectly adequate. The advantages of booking ahead are predictability, a vehicle sized to your group and a chauffeur who knows the FBO. Those matter most when the cost of a missed connection or a late arrival at a meeting is larger than the fare.

Winter, Winterlude and tulip season

In winter, snow and freezing rain slow the Airport Parkway and Highway 417, so a sensible plan adds time rather than trusting a summer estimate. Our guide to Winterlude weekends in Ottawa covers the February closures and skating-canal crowds, which affect the Rideau Canal side of downtown.

In spring, tulip-season visitors share the corridor with official guests; our guide to the Canadian Tulip Festival covers the garden routes. Add ten to fifteen minutes on any drop-off with a fixed start.

Onward from Ottawa: Montréal, Toronto and Kingston

Some passengers land in Ottawa and continue by road. From the FBOs, Montréal's downtown is about 198 km, typically 2 to 2.5 hours depending on the Highway 417 and 40 sections; our Ottawa to Montréal car service page covers that run. Toronto is roughly 450 km and 4.5 to 5 hours, covered in Toronto to Ottawa by car. Kingston is about 190 km, 2 to 2.5 hours. For travellers continuing to Québec, our Montréal to Québec City service picks up from there. See also Montréal business aviation and the wider private aviation hub.

What to send when you book

You can book at the online booker in about two minutes. For an FBO pickup, include:

  • The FBO name and the aircraft's tail number or flight number
  • Estimated landing time and the departure airport
  • Whether the passengers are arriving from outside Canada
  • Names and mobile numbers for the lead passenger and any assistant
  • Number of passengers and bags, including oversize items
  • The drop-off address, and any child seat or return-trip needs

The booker shows the exact fare for the address and vehicle before you confirm, and our 24/7 dispatch picks up if plans change in the air.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a car service from the Ottawa FBO to downtown?

The FBOs are about 14 km from Parliament Hill, and the drive usually takes 20 to 35 minutes. We do not quote fares on this page; the online booker shows the exact all-in fare for your pickup and drop-off address and vehicle before you confirm, and the fare is fixed.

Can your chauffeur drive onto the ramp to meet the aircraft?

That is decided by the FBO and the airport authority, not by us. In general the car stages at the operator's vehicle entrance, and ramp access depends on the operator's security rules on the day. We confirm the arrangement with the operator before the trip and tell you in your booking confirmation.

Which FBOs are at Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier airport?

The Ottawa International Airport Authority lists ExpressAir, Execaire (Innotech) Aviation and Skyservice Ottawa. Execaire's own site gives its Ottawa address as 300 Comet Private. Tell us which operator you are using when you book so the chauffeur goes to the right building.

What documents do passengers need on a private flight from abroad?

The same ones as on an airline flight: a valid passport, plus any visa or electronic travel authorization that applies to your nationality. Your charter operator or flight department should confirm what applies. The CBSA publishes the telephone-reporting rules for private aircraft carrying 15 people or fewer, crew included.

Do you track private jets as well as airline flights?

We track what can be tracked and stay in touch with your flight coordinator. Private flights often lack a public airline schedule, so we ask for the tail number or expected arrival time and a contact who can warn us of changes. International arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting after landing; domestic arrivals include 30.

Can the same chauffeur stay with us for the whole day in Ottawa?

Yes. Multi-stop days, such as a hotel check-in, a ministry meeting, lunch and a return to the aircraft, are usually booked hourly with one chauffeur and one vehicle, and the desk can adjust the plan during the day.

Do you offer child seats for a family charter?

Yes. Child, toddler and booster seats are provided when requested at booking. Tell us the children's ages so the right seats are fitted before the car leaves for the FBO.

Can you drive on to Montréal or Toronto after we land in Ottawa?

Yes. Montréal's downtown is about 198 km from the FBOs, usually 2 to 2.5 hours, and Toronto is roughly 450 km, 4.5 to 5 hours. Long transfers are booked at a fixed fare through the same booker, and Québec service is available in English and French.

What is your cancellation policy for an FBO transfer?

More than 72 hours' notice: no charge. 72 hours or less: 10%. 48 hours or less: 50%. 24 hours or less or a no-show: 100%, measured from the scheduled pickup time. If your aircraft is delayed, tell the desk and we re-time the car rather than cancel it.
