Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is the shortest private-aviation commute in Canada, and it comes with rules that catch first-time visitors out. Jets cannot land. The airport closes at night. The runway is on an island, so every car journey starts with the question of how the car and the passenger find each other. This page explains the Billy Bishop FBO limo question from the ground: who runs the FBO we can verify, what the airport itself says about hours and aircraft, how the ferry and tunnel fit in, and which trips from the island justify a chauffeur and which do not.
Can a limo pick me up at the Billy Bishop airport FBO?
Yes, a chauffeur can be booked for a Billy Bishop arrival, but the meeting point is set by the airport and the FBO, not by us. The default is a clear plan agreed at booking: either at the FBO building or at the mainland curb outside the ferry terminal. The chauffeur confirms the position on the day.
The reason for that careful wording is geography. Billy Bishop sits on Toronto Island, across the Western Gap from the foot of Bathurst Street and Eireann Quay. Passengers on scheduled flights cross by the free pedestrian tunnel or the short ferry. A business-aviation party landing at an island FBO has a different set of choices, and the airport's own pages do not say where a private limousine should stand to collect a corporate arrival.
What the airport does publish is where the curb is on the mainland. Its getting-around page says curbside drop-off and pick-up is outside the mainland pavilion and ferry terminal, that rideshare uses the same curbside zone, and that departing-passenger taxis wait at the taxi corral to the right of the mainland pavilion, at the foot of Eireann Quay. That is the one location we can state with confidence, and it is the fallback for any booking where the FBO cannot meet the car.
The pickup process on our side is the same as on every airport run. You book with the aircraft registration or flight details and the FBO name, the desk tracks the arrival, and the chauffeur is briefed with the meeting plan before you land. The booker shows the exact fare for your address and vehicle before you confirm.
Which FBO operates at Billy Bishop?
The operator we can describe from its own website is Porter FBO. Its site lists the location as Hangar #6, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (CYTZ), Toronto, Ontario M5V 1A1, open every day from 05:30 to 23:00. It lists a lounge, meeting rooms and crew facilities, aircraft parking and aircraft services, plus daily hangar and ramp availability. It describes the downtown core as a 10-minute taxi or limo ride, mentions fast access to the QEW, and offers a complimentary shuttle service. It also states there are no air traffic delays or slot time restrictions, which is the operator's own claim, so treat it as such. See the Porter FBO site for the current detail.

The airport's page for pilots does not name FBOs, so we have not named any beyond Porter FBO. If your aircraft is handled by a different operator on the field, give us its name and your arrival plan at booking and we will adapt.
One feature of the Porter FBO listing matters to a passenger. The page promises a shuttle and a 10-minute limo ride but does not say where limousines meet clients. Ask the FBO that question directly when you confirm your handling, and tell the desk the answer.
What are the airport's hours and aircraft rules?
These are the facts the airport itself publishes, and they shape every plan you make.
- Hours: the airport's site states that hours of operation are 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM daily. Its page for pilots adds that no operations are allowed outside published hours except MEDEVAC.
- Jets: the same page states that all jet aircraft, except MEDEVAC flights, are prohibited, as are certain types of propeller aircraft.
- Circuits: right-hand circuits are required on runways 06 and 08, which is a pilot matter but explains the quiet, tidy way traffic flows in and out.
- Floatplanes: between April 15 and November 15, prior notification is required to land in the Toronto Inner Harbour. Regularly scheduled floatplane operations are not permitted, although charter flights may be allowed with notification.
The consequence for passengers is blunt. If your aircraft is a business jet, the pickup is at Pearson, Hamilton or Oshawa, not here. Read the airport's information for pilots before you commit to a routing, and ask your operator whether your specific aircraft type is permitted.
How do the ferry and the pedestrian tunnel affect the plan?
Everyone who is not flying private needs to know these two connections, and they influence what a chauffeur can and cannot do.

The ferry leaves from the foot of Bathurst Street, crosses the Western Gap in about 90 seconds and runs every 15 minutes, daily from 5:15 a.m. to about 12:07 a.m. The airport's ferry page says pedestrians ride free and vehicles pay a fare, so cars can cross, but whether a chauffeur-driven car can drive onto the island and to a particular FBO is a decision for the airport and the operator. We do not assume it.
The pedestrian tunnel runs beneath the Western Gap. The airport's tunnel page gives its length as 853 feet and says the walk from curb to check-in takes less than six minutes, with six elevators on the mainland side and four moving walkways inside. It is a route for people on foot and for scheduled-passenger traffic, so a private party landing at an FBO does not normally use it.
The practical rule: if the FBO is going to bring you to the mainland, the chauffeur meets you at the agreed point. If you are making your own way across, the curb outside the ferry terminal is the agreed point.
Billy Bishop to Bay Street, Union Station and the Financial District
This is the trip Billy Bishop is built for, and it is short. The distances below are measured from the mainland pickup at Eireann Quay.
| To | Distance | Free-flow drive |
|---|---|---|
| Fairmont Royal York and Union Station | about 3 km | about 5 minutes |
| The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto | about 2 km | about 5 minutes |
| InterContinental Toronto Centre | about 2 km | about 5 minutes |
| Hyatt Regency Toronto | about 2 km | about 5 minutes |
| Westin Harbour Castle | about 3 km | about 5 minutes |
Those figures are free-flow. In the afternoon peak, or when there is a game or concert on, Lake Shore and Bay Street fill up and a five-minute drive can become fifteen. Read the Scotiabank Arena pickup guide for how event nights change the picture around Union Station and the Gardiner ramps.
At that distance, the honest question is whether you need a car at all. We answer that in the comparison below. Where a chauffeur wins is in the multi-stop day: a morning landing, three meetings in the towers between King and Front Street, a lunch, and the afternoon departure back to the island. The hourly chauffeur page explains how that is booked, and the corporate car service page covers monthly invoicing.
Billy Bishop to Yorkville, the Entertainment District and the hotels
Slightly further out, but still short, are the hotel clusters people ask about.

- Four Seasons Hotel Toronto (Yorkville): about 6 km, about 12 minutes free-flow. See the Four Seasons page.
- The Hazelton Hotel: about 6 km, about 12 minutes. See The Hazelton Hotel.
- Shangri-La Toronto and The St. Regis Toronto: each about 3 km, about 6 minutes. See Shangri-La Toronto and The St. Regis Toronto.
- 1 Hotel Toronto and Hotel X Toronto: about 1 km and about 2 km, 3 minutes each. See 1 Hotel Toronto and Hotel X Toronto.
For the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, which sits within the downtown core, the MTCC site shows the North and South buildings. Our convention centre arrivals guide covers exhibitor drop-offs. All of the major Toronto hotel pages give the airport figures for Pearson, Billy Bishop and Hamilton.
From the island to the 905 and beyond
The island is where Billy Bishop is strongest, and also where its advantage ends. Anything outside the downtown core is a road trip, and a chauffeur starts to make sense.
| From Billy Bishop (Eireann Quay) to | Distance | Free-flow drive | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toronto Pearson | about 25 km | about 25 minutes | A jet leg connects here; see Pearson FBO |
| Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale | about 37 km | about 33 minutes | See Mississauga limo |
| Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites | about 33 km | about 30 minutes | See Markham limo |
| Kingbridge Centre, King City | about 41 km | about 42 minutes | North of Vaughan; see Vaughan limo |
| Hockley Valley Resort | about 79 km | about 78 minutes | Resort and conference weekends run longer |
For longer runs, the Toronto to Niagara Falls route is about 130 km on the QEW in 80 to 100 minutes, and the Toronto to Ottawa route is about 450 km, 4.5 to 5 hours.
Billy Bishop versus the other ways to get downtown
The best alternative to a chauffeur from Billy Bishop is often free, and it is worth saying so.

| Option | Time to downtown | Cost note | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Porter FBO shuttle | Short; the FBO lists a 10-minute ride to the core | Complimentary per the FBO | Anyone handled at Porter FBO who is going downtown |
| Airport shuttle bus to Union Station | About 15 minutes, every 15 minutes | Free | Scheduled-airline passengers; the stop is at the Fairmont Royal York |
| Ferry plus walk | About 90 seconds across | Pedestrians free | Light travellers going to the waterfront |
| Taxi or rideshare at the mainland curb | Road time plus wait | Meter plus surge | Spontaneous trips with no schedule |
| Chauffeured car | Same road time, no wait | Fixed fare via booker | Multi-stop days, groups, luggage, onward trips to the 905 |
The airport's shuttle page lists the shuttle's two stops and the schedule. If you are travelling alone with one bag and going to a single hotel, the free options are the better choice, and we would rather you used them than booked a car you do not need. The chauffeur is the right answer when the day has several stops, when the party is larger, when you are carrying a presentation, or when the leg ends in the 905.
Which vehicle for a Billy Bishop arrival?
Aircraft that can land at Billy Bishop are, by definition, smaller, so most parties are compact.
- Executive Sedan: up to 3 passengers, with 2 large and 2 carry-on bags. The usual choice for one to three executives.
- Luxury SUV: six seats and space for five or six full-size cases. For a delegation with equipment or a family with luggage.
- Executive Sprinter: 12 to 14 seats and a dozen or more cases, for a full turboprop cabin travelling together. See the fleet for the full list.
Stretch limousines and party-bus vehicles are available hourly, and availability and the exact vehicle are confirmed at booking. For a family with young children, the child seat car service page explains how infant, toddler and booster seats are requested at booking.
Timing the late arrival and the early departure
The airport's hours create two pressure points. The first is the late evening: the airport closes at 11 PM, and the Porter FBO's listed hours end at 23:00, so a flight scheduled to land at 10:45 PM has almost no margin. If your arrival runs late, the car needs to know. Flight tracking runs on every airport pickup, and the desk updates the chauffeur if the plan changes.
The second is the early morning. The airport opens at 5:00 AM and the FBO at 05:30, so a first departure is a very early start downtown. For a 6:00 AM departure from a hotel in the core, a pickup around 5:15 AM is a sensible starting point, and the chauffeur confirms the time the evening before.
Our standard waiting terms for airport pickups are 60 minutes free after landing on international arrivals and 30 minutes on domestic arrivals. If your flight is international, say so at booking.
Customs and the border
We could not verify, from the airport's or the operator's own pages, what customs service exists at the island for private flights. For that reason, this page does not describe it. If your trip originates outside Canada, confirm clearance with your operator and the CBSA before you plan the ground leg. The CBSA's telephone reporting page explains reporting for aircraft in the CANPASS private and corporate programmes: the pilot reports the arrival time at least two hours and no more than 48 hours before flying into Canada.
When your aircraft cannot land at Billy Bishop
Because the airport bars jets, many business travellers use another field and a car for the last leg. Compare them on the private aviation overview.
- Toronto Pearson: about 25 km from the island pickup. See Pearson FBO car service and the Pearson Airport limo page.
- Hamilton (YHM): the western option; see Hamilton business aviation.
- Oshawa (YOO): the eastern option; see Oshawa business aviation.
For airline travellers using Billy Bishop, our Billy Bishop Airport limo page covers the terminal, and the airport comparison shows all of the airports side by side.
A Toronto Island day
Not every trip to Billy Bishop is a business flight. Many people fly in to spend a day on the Toronto Islands, and the logic is the same: land, cross, spend the day, return. Our Toronto Islands ferry day guide covers the ferry docks and the return pickup, and the city tours page covers private itineraries by the hour.
Frequently asked questions
Can business jets land at Billy Bishop?
No. The airport's page for pilots states that all jet aircraft, except MEDEVAC flights, are prohibited, as are certain types of propeller aircraft. Jets use Pearson, Hamilton or Oshawa.
What hours is Billy Bishop open?
The airport publishes hours of 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM daily, with no operations outside those hours except MEDEVAC. Porter FBO lists its own hours as 05:30 to 23:00.
Where does the limo meet me at Billy Bishop?
At the point agreed at booking: the FBO building if the operator allows it, or the mainland curb outside the ferry terminal at the foot of Eireann Quay. The chauffeur confirms the position on the day.
How far is Billy Bishop from Bay Street?
About 3 km to the Fairmont Royal York, about 5 minutes in free-flow traffic. In the afternoon peak or on an event night, allow longer. The booker shows the exact fare for your address.
Is a chauffeur better than the free shuttle?
Not for a single downtown stop with one bag. The shuttle and the Porter FBO's complimentary service are the better choice there. A chauffeur wins on multi-stop days, larger parties and trips out to the 905.
How long is the drive from Billy Bishop to Pearson?
About 25 km, usually about 25 minutes in free-flow traffic, often 40 minutes or more in the afternoon peak.
Can a car take me onto the island?
The airport's ferry page says vehicles can use the ferry, but whether a chauffeur car may go to a given FBO is up to the airport and the operator. We plan a mainland meeting unless the FBO confirms otherwise.
What vehicles do you offer for a small turboprop party?
An Executive Sedan takes up to three passengers, a Luxury SUV up to six, and an Executive Sprinter 12 to 14. Stretch limousines are hourly and confirmed at booking.
How much is a limo from Billy Bishop?
The fare depends on the address and vehicle. The booker shows the exact all-in fare before you confirm.
