Ottawa's VIA Rail station does not sit downtown. It stands on Tremblay Road, beside the Queensway, a short drive from the Rideau Canal and Parliament Hill but far enough that most visitors find out quickly that "walk to the hotel" is not the plan. An Ottawa train station car service closes that gap: you book a chauffeur for your train, and he or she takes you to the hotel, the ministry, the embassy or the airport without the queue.
This page covers the practical details of Ottawa Station as VIA Rail publishes them, the surrounding road network, the O-Train link that is the cheapest way into the city, and the situations in which a booked car is simply the better tool. Fares are shown by the booker for your exact address and vehicle before you pay.
How does an Ottawa train station car service work?
You book a car for the day and time of your VIA Rail arrival or departure, enter the destination, and see a fixed fare before paying. Your chauffeur plans the approach to 200 Tremblay Road, meets you at the agreed point and drives you to downtown Ottawa, Gatineau, the airport or beyond.
Start in the booker with Ottawa Station as the pickup. Add the destination, choose the vehicle class and put the train number in the booking notes. The fare is calculated for that trip and shown in full; you do not meet a meter at the end.
Waiting terms for a station pickup are confirmed at booking. Airport arrivals have published free waiting periods because flights are tracked in real time; for trains we agree the arrangement with you, which is why the train number and scheduled arrival belong in the notes.
Where Ottawa Station is and how the roads reach it
VIA Rail lists Ottawa Station at 200 Tremblay Road, Ottawa, K1G 3H5. From the Queensway (Highway 417) the exit is the Vanier Parkway, exit 117, and VIA says the station is about 4 km from downtown. Ottawa Tourism's visitor guide describes it, under its older name, as a few minutes east of downtown, which matches what a driver experiences outside rush hour.

The station is on the east side of the core, near the Queensway and the Rideau River. That placement has a consequence for a car: the Queensway is the artery you rely on for anything going east or west beyond the city, and a chauffeur who works this corridor knows how to read the 417 before committing to it.
- Address: 200 Tremblay Road, Ottawa, Ontario
- Highway access: Queensway (417), Vanier Parkway exit 117
- Distance to downtown: about 4 km (VIA Rail)
- Typical drive to the Parliament Hill area: about 6 km, 10–20 minutes depending on traffic and events
What VIA Rail's page tells you about hours, parking and the platform
We read VIA Rail's Ottawa page in October 2026. The station is open Monday to Thursday 03:45–23:30, Friday and Saturday 04:45–23:30 and Sunday 07:00–23:30. The ticket counter closes earlier, at 18:45 each day. Those early opening hours matter if you are catching a first morning train: a car can be at the door before the building opens.
Two items on the page are worth planning around. First, VIA restricts platform access to five minutes before departure, and it asks passengers to wait in the parking area until then; arriving "early" does not get you onto the platform early. Second, VIA notes that construction affects parts of the lots until October 15, 2026, which is another reason to coordinate a drop-off with your chauffeur rather than improvise.
The building is LEED Gold certified, has Wi-Fi, a restaurant, an ATM, an elevator and a baggage checkroom. The full detail is on VIA Rail's Ottawa station page.
Pickups and drop-offs at the main entrance
VIA identifies the curbside zone as directly in front of the main entrance, in the accessible pick-up and drop-off area. That is the place the station expects vehicles to stop for passengers who need help, and it is where we plan accessible pickups.

Arriving. After you leave the platform and collect your luggage, the chauffeur meets you at the point agreed at booking. If the train is delayed, the chauffeur is told through the booking record; you do not need to phone the desk from the platform.
Departing. Ask for a pickup time that gets you to the station with time to spare, and bear in mind VIA's five-minute platform rule. Being at the kerb 30–40 minutes before departure is comfortable for a standard corridor train; follow the recommendation printed on your ticket.
Accessible service. VIA offers a wheelchair lift, a courtesy wheelchair for boarding, a hearing loop and ASL and LSQ interpreters on demand, and asks for curbside assistance requests at least 48 hours ahead through its own line. If you need that help, arrange it with VIA and tell us so the car can meet you at the same spot.
The O-Train at Tremblay and when it is the better choice
The honest answer for many travellers is the train. VIA lists the OC Transpo O-Train and city buses among the connections at Ottawa Station, and OC Transpo's Tremblay station on Line 1 serves it. Line 1 is the east-west light rail across the downtown core. From Tremblay you can reach the central stations in a short ride without touching a road, and fares and timetables are published by OC Transpo.
Take the O-Train if you are alone or in a pair, travelling light, going to a hotel near a Line 1 stop and arriving outside the late evening. Take a booked car if you have large bags, a group, a child seat, a walk at the other end, an early appointment, or a destination off the rail line such as a diplomatic residence in Rockcliffe, a suburban office park or an address in Gatineau.
Ottawa Station to Parliament Hill, the Market and the downtown hotels
Approximate drive distances from Tremblay Road:

- Rideau Centre and the Rideau Canal at Rideau Street: about 4.5 km, 10–15 minutes
- ByWard Market: about 5 km, 10–20 minutes
- Parliament Hill and Wellington Street: about 6 km, 10–20 minutes
- Sparks Street and the government offices: about 6 km, 10–20 minutes
- Lansdowne Park: about 8 km, 15–20 minutes
- Kanata tech park area: about 25 km, 25–40 minutes
The Hill area is where timing matters most. Streets around Wellington can be restricted during events and ceremonies, and a chauffeur who knows the local detours will suggest a drop-off point that gets you close to the door. If you are visiting for a meeting, read our Ottawa limo service page for the main hotels and the corporate and government districts.
Ottawa Station to Ottawa International Airport (YOW)
Ottawa Tourism describes the airport as about a 20-minute drive from downtown, and puts the O-Train and OC Transpo bus route 105 among the public transit options. From the station, count on about 15–18 km and 20–35 minutes by car, a little longer in the evening peak.
The airport's own ground transportation page is useful if you are comparing options: O-Train Line 4 runs from 6:00 am to midnight between the Airport station and South Keys, bus route 105 runs 24 hours a day every 30 minutes and has its other end at St-Laurent Station, and pre-arranged luxury vehicles use pillars 12 and 13 outside the terminal. St-Laurent is the stop next to Tremblay on Line 1, so a bus-and-train chain exists, but it involves transfers with bags. See YOW's ground transportation page for current details, and our Ottawa airport limo page for the pickup procedure.
Ottawa Station to Gatineau and the Quebec side
Gatineau is across the Ottawa River, about 8–12 km from the station depending on the destination, and 15–30 minutes by car. It holds the Canadian Museum of History, the Casino du Lac-Leamy and Gatineau Park. Ottawa Tourism's getting-around page notes that rideshare drivers can drop off passengers in Quebec but cannot pick them up there, which is a good reason to book a car with the Gatineau address entered as the pickup.

The booker shows the fare for the exact pair of addresses, whichever side of the river they sit on. Our Gatineau limousine page has the details for the Quebec-side venues, and the Quebec-side service is delivered in English and French.
Comparison: leaving Ottawa Station
| Option | Typical time | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| O-Train Line 1 from Tremblay | 10–20 min to central stations | Lowest | Light luggage, hotels beside the line |
| OC Transpo bus | 15–30 min | Lowest | Neighbourhood trips, patient travellers |
| Taxi at the station | 10–20 min downtown, 20–35 min to YOW | Meter | One-off trips with no booking |
| Rideshare | 10–20 min downtown | Meter plus surge | Short urban trips (no pickups in Quebec) |
| Private car from TorontoBlackLimousine.net | 10–20 min downtown, 20–35 min to YOW | Fixed fare via booker | Bags, groups, early or late trains, Gatineau |
If you are going from the platform to a hotel one stop away on Line 1, with one bag, the O-Train is the sensible choice, and we will not pretend otherwise. The car is the better answer when the schedule is tight or the luggage is heavy.
Arriving from Toronto, Montréal or Kingston
Ottawa Tourism's guide lists the same travel times for train and car: Toronto about 4.5 hours, Montréal about 2 hours and Kingston about 2 hours. For the drivers among you, that is the clue that the road is competitive with the rail line on this corridor, especially when you add a door-to-door car at each end.
Road distances from the station:
- Montréal: about 200 km, 2 to 2.5 hours via the 417 and Autoroute 40
- Toronto: about 450 km, 4.5 to 5 hours via the 401 and the 416 or 7
- Kingston: about 195 km, about 2 hours via the 416 and 401
- Québec City: about 450 km, around 4.5 hours via Highways 50 and 40 (Destination Québec cité gives 4.5 hours)
For the longer runs open Toronto to Ottawa car service or Ottawa to Montréal car service. If your trip begins in Kingston, the Kingston limo page has the local detail.
Government visits, delegations and corporate arrivals
Ottawa is a city of meetings: federal departments, embassies, associations and the tech sector. A first-time visitor on a short itinerary benefits from a driver who knows which address is which and which entrance is actually open.
- One executive and a bag: Executive Sedan, up to 3 passengers, 2 large and 2 carry-on bags.
- A team of four to six with luggage: Luxury SUV, up to 6 passengers and 5–6 large bags.
- A delegation or a conference group: Executive Sprinter, 12–14 passengers and 12 or more bags.
Accounts for organisations that travel often between Toronto and Ottawa are covered on our corporate car service page, and larger events with shuttles and staging on the event transportation page.
Winter, early trains and road conditions
Ottawa winters are real. Before a 03:45 or 04:45 departure, check the forecast and road status; Ontario's 511 service lists road conditions, cameras and incidents for provincial highways at 511on.ca. Chauffeurs allow extra time in snow, and the pickup time you are quoted reflects the day you are travelling.
Our dispatch runs around the clock, so a car for the first train of the morning is requested like any other trip. Child, toddler and booster seats are provided when requested at booking, which is worth doing in winter when a family is moving between a heated station and a car.
Book your Ottawa station transfer
Enter Ottawa Station as the pickup, add the train number and book. The exact fare for your address and vehicle is shown before you confirm, and the cancellation terms are the same across our service, measured from the scheduled pickup time: more than 72 hours' notice, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10%; 48 hours or less, 50%; 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100%.
A full-day plan, for example Parliament Hill, the Market and a Gatineau lunch, can be booked through our private city tour with a driver page, and the other VIA stops along the corridor are collected on the train stations hub.
