Windsor airport limo: two airports, one river
Anyone booking a Windsor airport limo should start with a plain observation: Windsor sits across the Detroit River from one of the largest airports in the American Midwest, and a good share of Windsor travellers never use the local one. Windsor International Airport (YQG) is a small, calm, convenient airport with a short list of routes. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) is about 46 km away by road, with a far longer list.
TorontoBlackLimousine.net serves both ends of that choice from our Toronto dispatch. We meet arrivals at YQG, and we run Windsor and London area passengers to DTW and back, with border time treated as part of the journey rather than an afterthought. The booker shows the exact all-in fare for your address and your vehicle before you confirm.
What is the best way to get a limo from Windsor International Airport?

Book a chauffeur in advance with your flight number. The car is flight-tracked, the driver waits at the agreed point, and the fare is fixed before you pay. For a short trip to downtown Windsor, a taxi is a workable alternative; for Detroit, the border makes a pre-planned car much more practical.
Windsor International Airport is about 12 to 13 km from downtown Windsor, a 20 to 25 minute drive on most days. That makes the local transfer the simplest part of the trip. The harder questions are usually whether you should fly from YQG or DTW, which crossing makes sense, and what happens if your plans cross the border by road.
Windsor International Airport (YQG) at a glance
The airport's website lists its address as 3200 Cabana Rd E, Windsor, Ontario. It names four airline partners: Air Canada, Air Transat, Porter and WestJet. The destinations shown are Toronto Pearson with Air Canada, Ottawa with Porter, and seasonal flights to Calgary (WestJet), Cancún (Sunwing and Air Transat) and Punta Cana (Air Transat). Check the live board before you rely on a seasonal route.
The terminal is compact. The airport's parking and transportation page lists the arrangements that matter for a pickup:
- A cell phone lot, free for 30 minutes, for drivers waiting for arrivals. Vehicles must not be left unattended.
- Taxi stands at the terminal curbside, outside domestic baggage claim.
- Limousines waiting at the curbside, outside the west departure gates.
- Uber and Lyft dropping passengers at the departure level.
- Rental counters across from domestic baggage claim.
The airport also says driver solicitation is strictly prohibited inside the terminal, which is useful to know: nobody should approach you in the arrivals hall offering a ride. Your booked chauffeur does not solicit; they wait at the point you agreed.
See the airport's own parking and transportation page for current conditions, because the airport notes that parking upgrades are underway.
How a chauffeur pickup works at YQG
Every airport pickup we run uses flight tracking. A delayed Air Canada connection from Pearson moves the driver's start time with it, and an early landing finds the car already there. After landing, 30 minutes of waiting is included on a domestic arrival and 60 minutes on an international one; most YQG flights are domestic, but a seasonal arrival from Mexico or the Caribbean falls under the longer window.

The steps are short:
- Book online with the flight number, passenger count, bag count and drop-off address.
- Your confirmation shows the vehicle and chauffeur before the day.
- On landing, collect your bags and message that you are out.
- The driver meets you at the agreed point, loads the car and leaves.
If you want a name board inside the hall, the meet and greet service can be added. It is worth having for first-time visitors to Windsor, for guests of the casino or a hotel, and for anyone travelling with older relatives or several children.

Windsor airport limo to Detroit Metro (DTW): the practical guide
DTW is about 46 km from YQG by road. Without any border queue that is about an hour of driving; with a border wait, allow at least 1 hour 15 minutes. The border is the variable, so we plan the ride around the flight, not around the bridge.

Detroit Metro has two terminals, and the airport's site lists which airlines use each. The McNamara Terminal handles Aeroméxico, Air France, Delta and WestJet. The Evans Terminal handles Air Canada, Alaska, American, Avelo, Frontier, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Royal Jordanian, Southwest, Sun Country, Turkish, Volaris and United. Tell us your airline when you book, and the chauffeur drops you at the right terminal. The Detroit Metro airport website has the current list and terminal maps, and our own Detroit airport page covers the DTW side in more detail.
A rule of thumb for departures from DTW: leave earlier than you would for YQG, because the border queue can change by the hour and cannot be predicted. For an early flight, ask us to build in extra time at the start of the journey.
Three crossings, and how to think about each
Since July 27, 2026, Windsor-Detroit has had three crossings for cars:
- The Ambassador Bridge, on Huron Church Road in Windsor. Its official site says it is open every day, 24 hours a day, and serves passenger vehicles, NEXUS lanes and buses. Opened in 1929.
- The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, whose website says it operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with car, truck and NEXUS lanes shown on its traffic panel. Its Detroit address is 100 E Jefferson Ave.
- The Gordie Howe International Bridge, which the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority says opened to traffic on Monday, July 27, 2026. It creates a direct highway-to-highway connection between Ontario's Highway 401 and Michigan's Interstate 75, which is the path toward DTW.
The Ambassador Bridge and the tunnel are closest to downtown Windsor and downtown Detroit. The Gordie Howe bridge sits downriver and ties into the freeway system on both sides, which can make it attractive for DTW or for anyone arriving from the 401. Which crossing is best on a given day depends on the queue, the destination and the vehicle, so confirm the plan with us at booking. The Windsor-Detroit cross-border route page explains the day-of-travel decisions in more depth.
You can check the official pages for the Gordie Howe International Bridge, the Ambassador Bridge and the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel before you travel.
Documents, NEXUS and the border
Border wait time is part of the trip, and every passenger needs valid travel documents. The Canada Border Services Agency advises Canadian citizens to carry a valid Canadian passport for all visits abroad, including the United States, and lists a NEXUS card among documents that may support identity and citizenship. Details are on the CBSA's travel and identification documents page. U.S. Customs and Border Protection's travel pages link to wait times and to guidance for Canadian citizens.

A few practical points for a chauffeured crossing:
- Everyone in the car shows documents. Children need their own.
- Permanent residents and visitors from other countries may need additional documents; check before you leave.
- A NEXUS lane helps only if everyone in the car holds NEXUS.
- Declare what you are carrying in both directions, and keep purchases accessible.
Our cross-border limo page lists how we handle crossings, and our Toronto to Detroit route covers the longer journey from the GTA.
Choosing between YQG and DTW
Neither airport is always right. This table compares them from a Windsor traveller's point of view.
| Windsor (YQG) | Detroit Metro (DTW) | |
|---|---|---|
| Distance from downtown Windsor | about 13 km | about 39 km plus the border |
| Routes | Toronto, Ottawa, seasonal sun and Calgary | Many U.S. and international routes |
| Border | None | Yes, in both directions |
| Terminal experience | Small and quick | Large; two terminals |
| Best for | Domestic trips and short hops | Long-haul, many connections, competitive schedules |
Frequently asked questions
How far is Windsor International Airport from downtown Windsor?
About 12 to 13 km by road, usually 20 to 25 minutes. The booker shows the exact fare for your address and vehicle before you confirm, and the amount does not change once you book.
Is it better to fly from Windsor or from Detroit?
For flights to Toronto or Ottawa, YQG is usually better: no border and a short drive. For long-haul flights and many connections, DTW has the wider network. DTW is about 46 km from YQG by road, plus the border queue.
How long does it take to drive from Windsor airport to Detroit Metro?
About 46 km, usually 50 to 60 minutes without a queue. With a border wait, allow at least 1 hour 15 minutes, and more at busy times. Tell us your flight time and we plan the departure backward from it.
Which border crossings can a limousine use between Windsor and Detroit?
The Ambassador Bridge, the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel and, since July 27, 2026, the Gordie Howe International Bridge. The best crossing depends on the queue and your destination, and the choice is confirmed at booking.
What documents do I need to cross the border?
Every passenger needs valid travel documents. Canadian citizens are advised by the CBSA to carry a valid passport; NEXUS may support identity and citizenship for those who hold it. Check the CBSA and CBP pages for your own situation.
Do you track flights at YQG?
Yes. Every airport pickup is flight-tracked. Waiting is included after landing: 60 minutes on international arrivals and 30 minutes on domestic ones.
Can you meet me inside the terminal with a name board?
A name-board meet and greet inside arrivals is available as an add-on. Ask for it at booking and tell us the lead passenger's name and mobile number.
Where do limousines wait at Windsor International Airport?
The airport says limousines wait at the curbside outside the west departure gates, and taxi stands are outside domestic baggage claim. Your booked chauffeur meets you at the point agreed in your confirmation instead.
Can I request child seats for the airport transfer?
Yes. Child, toddler and booster seats can be requested at booking. Give the age and weight of each child so the correct seat is in the car.
