A Toronto to Kingston car service covers about 260 km on Highway 401, usually 2.5 to 3 hours from a Toronto address to a Kingston one, in one vehicle with one chauffeur. TorontoBlackLimousine.net books the run through our Toronto dispatch, which is staffed 24/7, and the online booker shows the exact fare for your pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay.

Kingston draws a particular mix of travellers. Parents move a first-year student into residence at Queen's. Executives travel to meetings and conferences. Couples head for a weekend on the waterfront, a cruise through the Thousand Islands, or a wedding at one of the region's heritage venues. Families go to Fort Henry. Each of those trips has its own timing problem, and this page deals with them one by one: the road, the stations, move-in weekend, the day-trip options and how the private car compares with the train and the bus.

How long is a Toronto to Kingston car service?

A Toronto to Kingston car service takes about 2.5 to 3 hours for roughly 260 km along Highway 401. Kingston sits on the 401, so the drive is a single highway with no border and no connection. Allow extra time for Friday afternoons, long weekends and Queen's move-in weekend.

The distance is consistent across local sources. The Downtown Kingston Business Improvement Area gives about 2.5 hours and 260 km from Toronto, and Queen's University gives about 260 km and about 2.75 hours. The range is wide because Toronto traffic is the variable: leaving at 6 am gives you the low end, and leaving at 4 pm on a Friday gives you something nearer to three hours or longer.

Highway 401 runs east from Toronto past Oshawa, Cobourg and Belleville, and Kingston is the main city on it between Belleville and the Quebec border. Kingston sources give Ottawa as about 200 km and about two hours from Kingston, and Montréal as about 290 km and about three hours.

The route: Highway 401 east to Kingston

The car leaves Toronto by the 401 or the Don Valley and Gardiner, depending on the pickup address, and follows the 401 east through Scarborough, Pickering and Durham Region. Past Oshawa the highway opens out: the drive is straight, the lanes are wide, and the scenery turns to farmland and lakeshore. The usual slowdowns occur at the Toronto end and wherever roadwork narrows the highway.

The Kingston exits matter at the end. VIA Rail's directions to the station use exit 613, Sydenham Road, off the 401, and the bus terminal is also just south of the highway. If you are going downtown or to Queen's, the car leaves the highway at the exit that suits your address and the booker plans the rest.

Ontario 511 lists road conditions, closures and roadwork for the whole route, and its app has access to images from over 900 cameras. It is worth a look before a winter trip or a Friday departure.

Pickup in Toronto: downtown, Pearson and the GTA

Pickups cluster in three places.

Downtown and the waterfront. Hotels, condos and offices around Union Station are the base case. The run to Kingston is about 260 km, 2.5 to 3 hours, and the car reaches the 401 via the Gardiner and the Don Valley Parkway.

Pearson airport. Travellers who land at Pearson and carry on to Kingston are common, especially students and families in late summer. The run is a little longer than from downtown, about 280 km and roughly three hours, and flight tracking adjusts the pickup to your actual landing. Waiting time after landing is included, with a longer window for international arrivals than domestic ones. See Pearson Airport limo for the pickup procedure.

GTA homes. From Scarborough, Pickering, Ajax and Oshawa, the 401 is on your doorstep and the trip is shorter. Our Oshawa and Whitby limo and Pickering and Ajax limo pages describe those pickup areas.

Queen's University move-in weekend

Move-in weekend is the busiest few days of the Kingston year. In 2026, Queen's expected about 4,850 first-year undergraduates to move into 18 residence buildings before classes began on Tuesday, September 8, with most arriving on Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5, as described in the university's Gazette notice. The university works with the City of Kingston, Kingston Police and traffic specialists on temporary road closures, changed traffic patterns, parking restrictions and on-site staffing. The Move-In Weekend Parking and Traffic Impacts page, linked from that notice, has the details for each year.

For families, that has practical consequences. Streets near the residences close or become one-way. Parking is restricted. The most useful thing a chauffeur does is drop you where the restrictions allow, which we arrange with you at booking when you tell us the residence and your time slot. The Residence Move-In website sets out the arrangements for your building.

What you carry also matters. A first-year move-in often involves a mattress topper, a fridge, bags and bins. The Luxury SUV takes up to 6 passengers with 5 to 6 large bags, and the Executive Sprinter, with 12 to 14 seats, can carry a whole family and its boxes. Ask us about the vehicle when you book, because move-in volume often needs a larger class than the passenger count suggests.

Our Kingston limo page covers the city's local services, and the dates for later years are published by Queen's each summer.

Kingston waterfront, downtown and the Visitor Centre

Visit Kingston lists its Visitor Information Centre at 209 Ontario Street, within reach of the waterfront and the shops. The City of Kingston's offices are at 216 Ontario Street, and Kingston Transit links the wider city. A typical downtown drop is at a hotel on or near Ontario Street, close to the waterfront.

Visit Kingston also promotes the former Kingston Penitentiary tours, the Attractions Pass (K-Pass) and the city's waterfront. If your plan is a weekend, the car can drop you downtown and you can walk, with the chauffeur ready for the return at a time agreed at booking. Our city tours service handles longer sightseeing days.

Fort Henry and the Thousand Islands

Two of the best-known day activities are close to the downtown.

Fort Henry. The fort is operated by the St. Lawrence Parks Commission, and its official site describes guided tours, rifle-firing demonstrations and museum exhibits in the fall programme. In October 2026 it also runs Fort Fright, a haunted attraction, from October 2 to 31 on selected nights. Tickets are sold online, and popular dates and entry times can sell out, so book before you travel and send us the time.

Cruises on the water. The 1000 Islands Cruises operation lists departures from Crawford Wharf at 1 Brock Street in Kingston, with a Discovery Cruise of about one hour, a Shipwreck Cruise of about 1.5 hours run with the Great Lakes Museum, and a Heart of the Islands Cruise of about three hours through the Admiralty group of islands. The seasons given on its site run roughly from April or May to October, so check the booking page for your date.

Further east, Visit 1000 Islands lists Gananoque, Brockville and Prescott as communities on the Ontario side. Gananoque is roughly 30 km east of Kingston, about 25 minutes by car, and Brockville is roughly 80 km, about 55 minutes; the booker confirms the exact figures for your stops.

Toronto to Kingston by VIA Rail, bus, rental car and private car

The comparison is honest because the train is a good option on this route, and often the better one for a single traveller.

Downtown Kingston's travel guide lists daily VIA Rail service from Toronto, Ottawa and Montréal, with about 2.5 hours from Toronto, 2 hours from Ottawa and 2.5 hours from Montréal, and notes that Megabus and FlixBus serve Kingston from Toronto and other cities. The station is at 1800 John Counter Boulevard, about a 15-minute drive from downtown, and the Kingston Bus Terminal is at 1175 John Counter Boulevard.

The train wins for a solo traveller who has a seat at a suitable time, is travelling light, and is content with a taxi or transit connection at Kingston. The car wins when you have a group or luggage, when you want to leave from your door, when the timetable does not fit, or when you are going somewhere the train does not.

Kingston station and the airport

If part of your journey is by rail, we can pick you up or drop you at the station. The VIA station is staffed, with a waiting room, washrooms, Wi-Fi and a baggage checkroom, according to VIA Rail, and its published hours run from early morning to late evening, closing at 20:30 on Saturdays. Check the hours for your date.

Kingston also has its own airport, the Norman Rogers Airport, at 1114 Len Birchall Way, about 8 km west of downtown. Its website names Air Canada as its partner for schedules and bookings. If you are flying in, our Kingston airport page explains the pickup, and flight tracking keeps the car aligned with your landing.

Business trips and day returns

A same-day return to Kingston from Toronto is a long day, but it works: a pickup around 6:30 am, a meeting by 9:30, and a return after the afternoon peak. The route suits legal, government and academic travel in particular. Our corporate car service page explains accounts and invoicing for regular travellers, and the hourly chauffeur service covers days with several stops.

When you book a return trip, tell us the time you want to leave Kingston. The chauffeur then plans the day with a margin for the Toronto approach, where the final stretch tends to decide the schedule. A return that reaches Toronto after the evening peak is usually calmer than one that arrives in it.

Weddings, celebrations and group travel

Kingston's waterfront and heritage buildings attract weddings and anniversary weekends. A group of 12 to 14 travels well in the Executive Sprinter, and a wedding party can book a stretch limousine or a mini-coach for the local legs, with availability and the exact vehicle confirmed at booking. Our wedding limo page describes planning for the day.

Ask for child, toddler or booster seats at booking, which matters on a 260 km drive. Whether alcohol may be carried follows Ontario law and is confirmed when you book; we never promise drinks on board.

Winter driving to Kingston

Highway 401 is a busy winter route, and snow squalls can reduce visibility along the lake. Plan more time between December and March, and look at Ontario 511 before you leave. If your schedule is flexible, tell us at booking, because a later departure in a storm is better than a rushed one.

Booking, fare and cancellation

The booker, not this page, gives the price. Enter your Toronto address, your Kingston address, the date and the vehicle, and the exact all-in fare appears before you pay. Licensed, commercially insured chauffeurs and vehicles are used on every trip.

If plans change, the clock runs from the scheduled pickup time: no charge with more than 72 hours' notice; 10% at 72 hours or less; 50% at 48 hours or less; 100% at 24 hours or less or on a no-show. Our FAQ covers other questions, and the routes hub lists the other corridor runs, including Toronto to Ottawa and Toronto to Montreal.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Kingston from Toronto?

Kingston is about 260 km from Toronto along Highway 401, usually 2.5 to 3 hours by car. Local sources give about 2.5 hours in light traffic and about 2.75 hours as a planning figure, with more time at peak periods.

How much is a car service from Toronto to Kingston?

No figure appears here because the fare depends on the two addresses, the vehicle and the date. Put them into the booker and it shows the exact all-in fare, quoted before you confirm.

Is a car service better than VIA Rail from Toronto to Kingston?

For one traveller with light luggage and a suitable timetable, VIA Rail is a good choice and often the lower-cost one. For groups, bags, move-in loads or addresses far from the station, a private car is simpler.

Can you drive a student to Queen's move-in weekend?

Yes. Tell us the residence and your time slot when you book. Queen's works with the City and Kingston Police on road closures and parking restrictions, so the drop-off is arranged around them. A Luxury SUV or Executive Sprinter suits a full load.

Do you pick up from Pearson and drive to Kingston?

Yes. The car follows your flight, free waiting time applies after landing, and you can add a greeter with a name board inside arrivals.

How far is Kingston from Ottawa and Montréal?

Kingston is about 200 km from Ottawa (about 2 hours) and about 290 km from Montréal (about 3 hours), according to local travel guidance. We can book those legs as separate transfers.

Can I do the Thousand Islands as a day trip from Toronto?

It is possible but long: Toronto to Kingston is 260 km each way. Most travellers stay overnight in Kingston, cruise from Crawford Wharf, and return the next day. Cruise seasons run roughly April or May to October.

Can you take us from Kingston to Fort Henry or a cruise?

Yes. Fort Henry and the Crawford Wharf cruise dock are in Kingston itself. Tell us the entry time for your ticket and where you are staying, and the booker plans the local transfer.

Can I bring a child seat?

Yes. Tell us how many seats you need and the ages of the children, and we arrange child, toddler or booster seats.
