St. Lawrence Market is Toronto's most reliable Saturday outing, and the one most easily spoiled by logistics. The best produce and the shortest queues are gone by mid-morning. Front Street East fills with delivery vehicles, shoppers with carts and drivers hunting for a space. A bag of cheese, a case of peaches and a bag of groceries do not travel well on a streetcar at noon. This guide is written from the curb: when the market opens, where a car can reasonably stop, how long the drive is from Union Station and Pearson, and when walking is the smarter move.
Our limo service in Toronto page covers vehicle classes and booking, and the Toronto city tours page covers private itineraries that include the market. You do not need to book anything to use the plan below.
Is St. Lawrence Market worth a Saturday morning?
Yes, if you go early. The farmers' market in the North Market opens at 5 a.m. on Saturdays and the South Market opens at 7 a.m. The best window is between about 7 and 10 a.m., before the crowds build. By midday the aisles are packed, and by 3 p.m. the farmers' market is done.
The market sits at 92 to 95 Front Street East, five to ten minutes' drive and an easy walk from Union Station. The City of Toronto runs it and publishes the hours, which are the basis for everything below. The market's own site lists a Farmer's Market in the North building on Saturdays from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a South Market that is open Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on Mondays.
Saturday is also the one day the two buildings overlap, which is why it is both the best and the busiest day to go.
The two markets and their hours
The City's hours and parking page is the reference. In short:

- North Market (Farmers' Market): Saturday only, 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. It keeps these hours through the winter holiday season.
- South Market: Tuesday to Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Monday.
The page also lists holiday hours for 2026 and 2027, and they are worth knowing before you plan a long weekend. On Thanksgiving weekend the South Market is open Saturday 10 October from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 October from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on Monday 12 October. On Remembrance Day, Wednesday 11 November, it is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Over Christmas it runs a short day on 24 December (7 a.m. to 4 p.m.), is closed on 25 and 26 December and on 28 December, opens 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on 27 December, and closes on 1 January 2027. Regular hours resume on Saturday 2 January 2027.
On Sundays the South Market is open, but the farmers' stalls are not. The market site also lists one-off community events, such as Sunday Variety Vintage Market dates and an antiques event on 11 October 2026. Dates belong to the organizers, so confirm them on the market's site.
Getting to St. Lawrence Market by car from Union Station, downtown and Pearson
From Union Station to the market is about 1 km, usually 5 to 10 minutes by car, and a 10 to 15 minute walk. The drive is east along Front Street to the market's stretch. From the Financial District it is similar. On Saturday mornings before 9 a.m., traffic is light. After 10 a.m., parking pressure and deliveries slow it down.
From Toronto Pearson the market is about 28 km, typically 30 to 50 minutes via the Gardiner Expressway, and longer on a weekday afternoon. If you are landing on a Saturday and heading straight to the market, the Pearson Airport limo page explains the pickup procedure. Flight tracking is included on every airport pickup, so the car follows the actual arrival rather than the schedule.
If you arrive by train, Union Station is the natural start. Our Union Station car service page describes pickup there, but for this trip the walk is often quicker than loading a car.
The drop-off reality on Front Street East
The market does not publish a vehicle drop-off zone, so treat the exact spot as something your chauffeur confirms on the day. What can be said in general terms is this. Front Street East is a working street: delivery vehicles, vendors loading stalls, pedestrians crossing at the Jarvis Street and Church Street ends, and shoppers pulling carts. A car can stop briefly, and it cannot sit.

A workable plan for an early start:
- Ask for the drop at the corner nearest the building you want, not the front door of the market. Front and Jarvis, or a side street nearby, is easier than the main frontage.
- Do your shopping with a fixed target time. Mark the time you will be out, and message once you are walking to the pickup point.
- Agree the pickup on a side street, not on Front Street. Bags are heavy, so keep the walk under two blocks.
- If you need to load a cooler or a case of produce, say so in the booking notes so the right vehicle is sent.
The first hours of the day are the easiest. At 5 a.m. the streets are quiet, and if you want first pick of the farmers' stalls, a car is the sensible way to get there, because transit frequency is lowest at that hour. Check first-service times on the TTC's King streetcar page and trip planner before you decide.
Parking if you drive yourself
The market's hours page lists a Saturday shopper rate for the St. Lawrence Garage, a City of Toronto Green P lot. As of 2026, the rate is $1.00 per hour for the first two hours, valid on Saturdays between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. only. The garage is south of the South Market Building, at Lower Jarvis Street and The Esplanade. Two hours is a realistic length of stay for a market visit, but check the page for the current terms before you rely on it.
The market's home page also lists other parking locations: The Market Lot, Front and Jarvis, Front and Church, and Jarvis and Wellington. A parking map is linked from the hours page. Garages fill by 10 a.m. on a fine Saturday, which is a reason to arrive early or to leave the parking to someone else.
What to buy, in the order the market runs
This is a short guide to using the morning, not a shopping list:
- 5 to 7 a.m. The farmers' market in the North building. Produce, eggs, baking, preserves and flowers from regional growers. Bring cash and bags.
- 7 to 9 a.m. The South Market opens at 7 a.m. on Saturdays. Start with the items that sell out, and leave the heavy things for last.
- 9 to 10:30 a.m. Breakfast or a coffee, then the second pass through whichever hall you liked.
- By 11 a.m. Head for pickup. By then the aisles are crowded.
Breakfast stalls and the best-known counters build queues after 9 a.m., so eat early if you want to. Vendors change, so rely on the market's own directory rather than a guide.
Families, strollers and accessibility
Neither the market's home page nor its hours page gives accessibility details, so check with the market directly if someone in your party uses a wheelchair or needs step-free access. The aisles are narrow at peak hours, and a stroller is awkward after 10 a.m. Early arrival is again the best fix.
If you are travelling with small children, a car service with a child seat can be arranged at booking, which helps if you are coming from the airport or a hotel and carrying purchases back. The Luxury SUV carries up to six passengers and five to six large bags, which is the practical vehicle for a family with a cooler and several bags of groceries.
Weather, seasons and the longer weekend
Saturday in July is hot, busy and rewarding. Saturday in January is cold, quiet and good for those who like short queues. Rain moves the crowd indoors and lengthens the lines at the stalls, so an early arrival matters more. Holiday weekends change the hours, as noted above, and the Thanksgiving weekend of 10 to 12 October is a good example: Saturday and Sunday are open, Monday is closed.

In the evening, the market area is quiet, and nearby restaurants take over. For a wider day downtown, a morning at the market combines naturally with the old streets of the Distillery District, which our guide on the Distillery Winter Village covers, or with a waterfront afternoon, described in the CN Tower and Harbourfront guide.
Walking, TTC and car: an honest comparison
| Option | Typical time from Union Station | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walk | 10 to 15 minutes | None | Anyone travelling light, and the simplest choice when it is dry |
| TTC streetcar or bus | Check the TTC trip planner | Lowest | Visitors staying along King Street or in the east end |
| Taxi or rideshare | 5 to 10 minutes | Meter plus surge at peak | Short one-way trips with a few bags |
| Private car booked direct | 5 to 10 minutes | Fixed fare via booker, quoted before you pay | 5 a.m. starts, large purchases, families, airport arrivals |
| Driving yourself | 5 to 10 minutes plus parking | Saturday garage rate listed by the market | Shoppers who arrive early and stay under two hours |
If you are staying within a kilometre, walk. It is quicker than any car on a busy Saturday, and you will find the vendors you want faster on foot. A car earns its place when the start is 5 a.m., the shopping is heavy, you are coming from or going to the airport, or you have children and a long list.
Booking a car for a St. Lawrence Market morning
Book a drop at Front Street East and a pickup on a side street, or an hourly chauffeur for a longer downtown morning. The booker shows the exact fare for your address and vehicle before you confirm, which is simpler than negotiating on the pavement.

If you are building a Toronto weekend, pair the market with the ROM and Yorkville, the AGO and Kensington Market or a Toronto Island day. The fleet page shows every vehicle class, and more plans are collected under attractions, events and the blog.

Is a car worth it for a Saturday market trip?
For a short trip with light bags from within a kilometre, no: walk. A car is worth it for a 5 a.m. start, heavy purchases, children, or a connection with the airport. The booker shows the fare before you pay.
How early should I arrive?
Early. The farmers' market opens at 5 a.m. and the South Market at 7 a.m. Arriving between 7 and 9 a.m. gives you good choice and manageable crowds, and leaving by about 11 a.m. avoids the heaviest crowds.
Can I book a car with a child seat?
Yes. Child, toddler and booster seats are available when requested at booking through TorontoBlackLimousine.net. The exact vehicle is confirmed at booking.
Can I combine the market with other stops?
Yes. An hourly chauffeur suits a market morning followed by lunch and a second stop. See the hourly chauffeur page for how multi-stop days are arranged.
