What is Rogers Centre Ottawa, and who uses it?

Rogers Centre Ottawa is the downtown convention centre that used to be called the Shaw Centre, and before that the Ottawa Convention Centre. Rogers renamed it in October 2024 after its acquisition of Shaw. It is not the Rogers Centre in Toronto, which is the stadium; the two share a brand but are 450 km apart. The Ottawa building is at 55 Colonel By Drive, at the corner of Daly Avenue and Colonel By Drive, beside the Rideau Canal and next to the Rideau Centre.

Rogers Centre Ottawa at 55 Colonel By Drive hosts conferences, conventions, trade shows, galas and weddings. It is about a 20-minute drive from Ottawa International Airport, close to the Rideau O-Train stop, and has a two-level underground garage beside it. Delegates usually arrive by train, airport transfer or car from a downtown hotel.

The Rogers Centre Ottawa site describes 192,000 square feet of space, with loading docks and freight elevators for exhibitors, and it names the Trillium Ballroom among its rooms. Its calendar shows multi-day professional congresses and forums, so the arrival pattern is often the same: a long weekday run of early starts, plus a gala evening.

This guide is written from the curb. It covers the approach roads, the garage, the airport and VIA transfers, and the honest case for taking the O-Train instead of a car. It is useful even if you never book with us.

The address and how the approach works

The Rogers Centre Ottawa page gives the address as 55 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K1N 9J2, at the corner of Daly and Colonel By Drive. The building shares entry points with the CF Rideau Centre shopping complex, which is the main reason the surrounding blocks stay busy on any weekday.

Daly Avenue and Nicholas Street South are the streets the venue's parking information refers to. Colonel By Drive runs along the canal, and its traffic builds in the morning and evening commutes. A driver who knows the area approaches from the direction that gives the shortest final turn, so give your chauffeur the exact entrance and, if your event publishes one, the registration door.

The Rogers Centre Ottawa site does not publish a drop-off zone. We therefore confirm the exact meeting spot with you before the event, and on busy mornings we suggest a nearby legal stop and a short walk instead of a queue at the main entrance.

Getting there from Ottawa International Airport

The venue says it is approximately a 20-minute drive from Ottawa International Airport (YOW). That is the figure to plan around in light traffic; delegates arriving at rush hour should allow more. For a chauffeured arrival, see our Ottawa airport page, where the arrival process is explained.

At YOW, the airport's own ground transportation page lists pre-arranged service, such as luxury vehicles, at pillars 12 and 13. Taxis queue outside the centre door, rideshare uses pillars 12 and 13 on the curb farthest from the terminal, and hotel shuttles and charter buses have their own pillars. Drivers waiting for passengers must use the Cell Phone Lot, because the arrivals and departures curbs are for active loading only. We track every flight, give 60 minutes of free waiting after landing on international arrivals and 30 on domestic ones, and offer a name-board meet-and-greet inside arrivals as an add-on. Enter your address and the booker gives the exact fare before payment.

O-Train and bus from the airport

The airport's ground transportation page describes Line 4 of the O-Train as running from 6:00 a.m. to midnight and connecting the airport station to South Keys, where riders can connect onward. The airport station connects to Level 3 of the terminal, at the north end. A bus, route 105, runs 24 hours a day every 30 minutes, with day service to St-Laurent Station and night service running to Rideau Station.

For a delegate with one bag arriving mid-day, the train is a real option. It lacks door-to-door service and needs a transfer, and a late-night arrival outside the hours of Line 4 leaves a bus or a car. If you land close to midnight, or you are carrying equipment, a chauffeur is simpler. Check OC Transpo for current service before relying on a connection.

Arriving by train: VIA Rail and Ottawa Station

Ottawa Station is at 200 Tremblay Road, about 4 km east of downtown, with the Tremblay O-Train stop next to it. Delegates from Toronto and Montréal arrive here, and the next step into the city is by O-Train, taxi or car.

VIA Rail lists an average Toronto to Ottawa trip of 4 hours 32 minutes over 444 km, with 54 departures a week, on its Toronto to Ottawa page. Ottawa to Montréal averages 2 hours over 185 km, with 34 departures a week. Our Ottawa train station page covers the pickup in detail.

From Tremblay, the O-Train Line 1 runs through downtown; Rideau is the stop for the convention centre. The trip is short, but with luggage, a chauffeur from the station is quicker and drops you at the door you name.

From Toronto and Montréal by road

Toronto to Ottawa is about 450 km, usually 4.5 to 5 hours depending on traffic and the route taken (see our Toronto to Ottawa page). Montréal to Ottawa is about 200 km, 2 to 2.5 hours, and the Ottawa to Montréal page covers the run.

A group from Toronto heading to a morning session should leave the evening before. A 6 a.m. departure arrives at around 10:30 to 11 a.m., which is late for a day that starts at 8:30. For Montréal delegates, the early start is shorter, but winter weather can change it.

On the return, the same logic applies in reverse. A closing session that ends at 4 p.m. leaves enough daylight for the run to Montréal, but not for a comfortable evening arrival in Toronto if the group also wants dinner on the way. Decide before you book whether the group will stay a night, because a driver on a long day is a matter of safety as well as comfort, and we plan the schedule with that in mind.

The parking garage beside the venue

The Rogers Centre Ottawa site describes its nearest parking facility as a two-level underground garage with 730 spaces. It has three entrances on Daly Avenue and Nicholas Street South, and exits on Nicholas Street South. Accessible spaces, four per level, are on the north wall near the Rideau Centre entrances. Payment on exit can be made at meters, by QR code, by text or by card. EV charging is in the Green Garage at CF Rideau Centre.

Parking is useful if you drive yourself and carry samples, display materials or a lot of luggage. Check the venue's page for current rates, which can change. It is not a drop-off zone, and a chauffeur waiting for you should not sit in the garage.

Hotels, the Rideau Centre and the walking radius

The venue says it has walking-distance access to more than 6,000 downtown Ottawa hotel rooms, and the shared entrances with the Rideau Centre make bad weather easier to manage. In many cases the sensible plan is to walk to the session and use the car for the airport, a dinner outside the core or a morning departure. Guests of a wedding or gala are in a different position: formal clothing, evening shoes and winter weather do not suit a ten-minute walk, and a short chauffeured transfer from a hotel to the ballroom door is a reasonable use of a car even when the distance is small.

In winter the walk is cold and short days matter for evening plans. In summer, the evenings in the ByWard Market are busy. If your group is booking a dinner, use the Parliament Hill and ByWard Market guide to plan the walking stages.

O-Train, taxi and car: the honest comparison

The O-Train is the sensible choice when it matches your route and you travel light. A chauffeur earns its place when the group is large, the luggage is real, the flight arrives at an awkward hour or you have a speaker who cannot afford to be late.

Groups, speakers and delegations

An Executive Sprinter carries 12 to 14 passengers with 12 or more bags, which suits a speaker panel or a board travelling together. A luxury SUV seats six and holds five or six full-size cases. An Executive Sedan takes up to three passengers. Vehicle classes such as stretch limousines and mini-coaches are confirmed at booking.

For a group of delegates, name one lead contact, send the flight list in advance and tell us which entrance you need. Our event transportation page explains how several vehicles are coordinated from one dispatch, and the corporate car service page covers account billing.

Accessibility

The Rogers Centre Ottawa site says the venue has elevators to all levels, accessible entrances and barrier-free washrooms, and its team is available on site to help attendees. Tell us about mobility needs when you book so the chauffeur can plan the arrival. Child, toddler and booster seats are available when requested at booking.

Weather, Winterlude and the spring tulips

Ottawa winters are cold, and conferences held in January or February can coincide with Winterlude. Crowds build along the canal, and the approach roads slow down on festival weekends. Our Winterlude weekend guide and Canadian Tulip Festival guide explain the seasonal patterns. In either case, add time to the schedule and confirm the pickup spot the day before.

Alcohol rules follow Ontario law and are confirmed at booking; we do not promise drinks on board.
