A November fair that behaves like a small city
The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is one of those Toronto events that people either grew up with or have never heard of. It fills the buildings at Exhibition Place with livestock, farm competitions, a holiday market, cooking demonstrations and, in the evenings, the Royal Horse Show. The fair's own website describes the horse show as the number one indoor equestrian event in North America, and the same site cites a total daily capacity of 30,000 guests. That number matters to a driver, because 30,000 people do not arrive politely spread across the day.
This guide is written from the curb, by a Toronto dispatch team that thinks about how vehicles reach Exhibition Place on convention days, game days and fair days. The Royal has a rhythm of its own. Daytime visitors come for the farm halls, food and family areas, and a second wave arrives toward evening for the horse show and the dining series. Plan the car around those waves and the day is easy. Ignore them and you will spend part of it watching brake lights on Lakeshore.
Nothing here requires you to book with us. Read it, borrow the timings, and use the train if the train suits you. Where a private car genuinely helps, we say so, and you can ask for an exact fare in the booker at any point.
When is the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in 2026?

The 2026 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair runs from Friday, November 6 to Sunday, November 15, 2026, at Exhibition Place, 100 Princes' Blvd. It is the fair's 104th edition. Exact hours and ticketed sessions change each year, so confirm them on royalfair.org before you book a car.
The dates above come from the fair's September 2026 announcement. The fair says it takes place every November, which is useful for planning ahead, but treat each year's exact dates as something to confirm rather than assume. Older web pages still show last year's range, and a search result is not a schedule.
On the fair's own site, general opening hours are listed as 9 am to 6 pm on Sundays and Mondays and 9 am to 8 pm Tuesday through Saturday. The Royal Horse Show and special sessions run to their own timetable inside those days. For 2026 the announcement highlights the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Toronto as a marquee horse show event, and Western Day and the Royal Rodeo on Sunday, November 15. If you are building a trip around one specific session, buy that ticket first, then fix the car to it.

What you are actually going to see
The fair is easier to enjoy if you decide in advance which of its personalities you are visiting for. The ones named on the fair's website are:
- The Royal Horse Show, held in the Coca-Cola Coliseum during the fair.
- Agriculture competitions, which are the original reason the fair exists.
- Food and lifestyle areas, including a restaurant and Chef's Table dining series. For 2026 the fair says every Chef's Table Dining Series ticket includes admission to the Royal Horse Show.
- Entertainment, including the Animal Theatre and the Royal Rodeos.
- Education areas such as the dairy and pig education centres, and a Family Zone with a petting farm.
- An expanded Holiday Market, new for 2026 according to the fair, and St. Nick photographs on November 12 to 15.
A day that mixes the farm halls with the horse show is long. Most visitors who do it well split it: the farm halls and food in the daytime, a break, and the Coliseum in the evening. That split is also what makes a car useful, which comes up again below.
How far Exhibition Place is from where you are starting
Exhibition Place sits on the Lake Ontario shore west of the downtown core, and every road to it is some combination of Lakeshore Boulevard, the Gardiner Expressway and the downtown grid. Approximate distances and drive times, in normal traffic outside the peak:

| From | Distance | Typical drive |
|---|---|---|
| Union Station / Financial District | about 4 km | 10–20 minutes |
| Entertainment District hotels | about 3 km | 10–15 minutes |
| Pearson Airport (Terminal 1 or 3) | about 25 km | 25–45 minutes |
| Billy Bishop Airport mainland dock | about 5 km | 12–20 minutes |
| Mississauga City Centre | about 28 km | 30–50 minutes |
| Markham (Highway 7 and Warden) | about 45 km | 50–80 minutes |
These are planning figures, not promises. The Gardiner westbound before the show and eastbound after it is the single biggest variable. A 4 pm departure from Pearson to the grounds on a fair day can be twice the 10 am time. The booker shows the exact fare for your exact pickup address and vehicle before you confirm, so you can price the car without calling anyone.
Where a car can actually stop at Exhibition Place
Exhibition Place is a large site with its own road network, and the official site lists five vehicle entrances: Dufferin and Saskatchewan, Strachan Avenue and Manitoba Drive, Newfoundland Road at Lakeshore, Ontario Drive at Lakeshore, and British Columbia Road at Lakeshore. Which one your driver uses depends on where the building you want sits and which gates are working that day.

The grounds' operator says taxi service is available at the main entrances, and that both GO Transit and the TTC have drop-off points on the site. It also tells visitors that transit is the preferred way to arrive, because large events create heavy congestion. We take that statement seriously. It does not mean a chauffeur is the wrong tool; it means the chauffeur's job is to know the order of the gates and to pick a drop-off that does not put you in the back of a vehicle queue.
What we do on a fair day:
- Confirm the exact building and door with you at booking, not on the day.
- Choose an entrance based on live traffic and any closures the grounds have posted.
- Drop you at the closest point a vehicle can legally stop, which on a busy evening may be a short walk from the building door.
- Agree a pickup spot that is not the drop-off spot, usually at a quieter edge of the grounds, so that the car is not trapped in the evening crush.
The fair and the grounds publish nothing that guarantees a particular curb for private cars, so the chauffeur confirms the exact spot with you the day before.
Parking: the honest picture
The grounds report about 5,400 parking spaces, around 1,300 of them underground, and note that spaces fill quickly. They also warn that rates rise on peak days and for special events, and that the numbers can change at any time, so check the current rate on the official parking page before you drive.
Driving yourself is entirely reasonable if you arrive early on a weekday morning, you are staying all day, and nobody in your party needs a door-to-door ride. It becomes a poor trade when the horse show is the reason you are going, because the exit from a full lot after a 10 pm finish is slow, and you will have been standing on a concrete floor for hours first.
Parking at the grounds also includes 88 accessible spaces, a handful of parent-and-child spaces and EV charging in the underground garage at the Enercare Centre, according to the operator. Details and the current rate card are on the Exhibition Place getting here page.
A horse show evening, minute by minute
Most of the questions we get about the Royal are about the evening. A plan that works:

- Leave downtown or the hotel about 75 minutes before the session so the Gardiner and Lakeshore do not decide your arrival.
- Be dropped near the Coliseum entrance your ticket names. Have your ticket on your phone before the car stops.
- Eat before or at the fair; the dining series and restaurants are part of the draw.
- Tell the driver your finish time, not your hope. Horse show sessions can run longer than expected, so give the driver a window, not a minute.
- Meet the car at the agreed pickup, not at the drop-off. Message the chauffeur when the final class is ending and the vehicle can be at the spot as you walk out.
If you are going straight from the horse show to Pearson, or from the airport to the horse show, tell us the flight number. We track every airport pickup, with 60 minutes of free waiting after landing on an international arrival and 30 on a domestic one.
A family day at the Royal
With children the logistics change. The Family Zone, the petting farm and the dairy education centre are the daytime highlights, and check the fair's site for show times. A family of four with a stroller and a bag of mittens is well suited to the Luxury SUV class, which takes up to six passengers and five or six large bags. If you have a car seat requirement, ask for a child, toddler or booster seat when you book; we fit them on request, and you should tell us the child's age and weight at booking so the right seat is in the vehicle.
For a larger group, an Executive Sprinter takes 12 to 14 passengers. If you are bringing a school or youth group that is not on a bus, a single chauffeured vehicle is simpler to hand over at the gate than a convoy of private cars.
Seniors and anyone who finds distance tiring
Exhibition Place is big. The walk from a distant lot or a far transit stop to the building you want can be long, and November makes it colder. If the person you are bringing tires easily, the right question is not whether to use a car but where the car can get closest. A chauffeur can usually get nearer than a self-drive parking lot does, and can wait with the vehicle warm until you are ready. For wheelchair users or anyone with mobility needs, tell us at booking: we confirm what the vehicle and the stop can accommodate rather than guess on the day.
November weather and winter driving
The Royal is held in the first half of November, when Toronto can give you anything from a clear 10 degrees to the first wet snow. Two practical effects: the Gardiner is slower in rain, and the walk from a distant gate is colder than the forecast suggests, because the shoreline wind is real. Dress for a walk even if you are being driven, and treat the time between the car and the door as part of your schedule.
Our vehicles are licensed and commercially insured, and if a snow warning is posted the night before, the sensible response is to leave earlier, not later.
Honest alternatives, and when they win
The cheapest, simplest way to get to Exhibition Place is often not a car. The official site names GO Transit and the TTC as the preferred options, and it describes a GO station on the grounds with a north-side entrance that opened in October 2024. The table below compares the real choices.
| Option | Typical time from downtown | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| GO train to Exhibition station | short ride from Union Station | lowest | solo visitors, daytime, no luggage |
| TTC streetcar or bus | 20–40 minutes | lowest | budget day, flexible schedule |
| Drive and park | 10–20 minutes plus parking | parking fee on site | early arrivals, all-day stays |
| Taxi at the main entrances | 10–20 minutes | meter plus surge-style demand | short hops when you have no booking |
| Rideshare | 10–25 minutes | variable | small parties, daytime |
| Private chauffeur | 10–25 minutes | fixed fare via booker | horse show evenings, families, Pearson transfers |
If you are alone, going in the daytime and travelling light, take the GO train or the TTC. A car earns its fare when you are in a group, wearing evening clothes, carrying a bag of shopping from the Holiday Market, travelling with a child or an elderly relative, or coming from or going to Pearson on the same day.
Combining the Royal with an airport transfer or a hotel night
Many Royal visitors are from outside Toronto: farm families, horse owners, school groups. If you are flying into Pearson, a chauffeur from the arrivals level to your hotel and again to the grounds avoids two transfers. See our Pearson Airport limo page for terminal pickup procedure, and the Toronto limo service page for the downtown hotel picture.
For those staying more than a night, an hourly chauffeur can keep a vehicle on call for the whole fair day, running you between the hotel, the grounds and dinner. See the fleet for the vehicle classes, or the events guides for the rest of the year's calendar.

Frequently asked questions
When is the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair this year?
The 2026 fair runs from November 6 to 15 at Exhibition Place. The fair says it is held every November, but each year's range differs, so check royalfair.org for the current dates and for individual session times.
How far is Exhibition Place from Pearson Airport?
About 25 km, typically 25 to 45 minutes depending on the Gardiner. On a fair day plan on the upper end between 4 pm and 7 pm. Tell us your flight number and we track the landing.
Where do I get dropped off for the horse show?
The horse show is in the Coca-Cola Coliseum on the grounds. Your chauffeur confirms the nearest legal stop with you before the day and uses whichever vehicle entrance is working best that evening.
Is there parking at the Royal?
Exhibition Place reports roughly 5,400 spaces, with accessible and EV spaces among them, and says lots fill quickly and rates rise for peak days. Check the current rate on the grounds' own page rather than relying on an old figure.
Should I take the GO train instead?
If you are travelling alone, in daylight, without luggage, probably yes. The grounds have a GO station and TTC stops, and transit is the option the operators recommend. A car makes sense for evenings, families, groups and airport days.
How much is a limo from downtown Toronto to the Royal?
Downtown to Exhibition Place is about 4 km, usually 10 to 20 minutes. We do not publish prices here; the booker shows the exact fare for your pickup address and vehicle before you confirm.
Can I take a Sprinter or stretch limo to the fair?
Yes. An Executive Sprinter carries 12 to 14 passengers. Stretch limousines and party buses are available on an hourly basis; availability and the exact vehicle are confirmed at booking.
Can you bring a child seat?
Yes, ask for a child, toddler or booster seat when you book and we will fit it. Give the child's age and weight so the correct seat is in the car.
What happens if my plans change?
Our cancellation terms are measured from the scheduled pickup time. More than 72 hours' notice has no charge; 72 hours or less is 10%; 48 hours or less is 50%; 24 hours or less, or a no-show, is 100%.
